A unique voice from Riparbella, where biodiversity, elegance, and respect for nature come together to express the authentic vitality of the Tuscan Coast, through outstanding red wines
May 27, 2025 (Riparbella, Pisa) — Nestled among the Mediterranean scrub and the Tyrrhenian Sea, Caiarossa is more than just a winery: it is a harmony of landscape, culture, and biodynamics. Since 2004, the vision of Eric Albada Jelgersma – also owner of the renowned Château Giscours in Bordeaux – has come to life in this hidden corner of the Val di Cecina. Today, his children carry on a winemaking legacy that blends French precision with Mediterranean vitality.

A Mosaic of Soils, a Biodynamic Vision
With 40 hectares of vineyards divided into 59 plots and 10 varieties, Caiarossa is a kaleidoscope of terroirs ranging from 120 to 350 meters above sea level. The biodynamic practices adopted from the beginning reflect a deep connection with nature’s cycles, excluding chemical pesticides and fertilizers in favor of natural preparations, compost, and biodiversity. This production philosophy ensures that each bottle authentically expresses a balanced ecosystem.
Red Wines: The Deep Voice of the Land
Among the labels that best represent Caiarossa’s red soul are:
- Caiarossa (IGT Toscana Rosso) – The estate’s flagship wine, a refined blend of Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Merlot, Sangiovese, Petit Verdot, and Grenache. A deep, structured red, aged in barriques for at least 14 months, expressing the elegance of the land with an international outlook.
- Aria di Caiarossa – Sourced from the highest vineyard (Nocolino), it conveys the unique traits of volcanic soil. The blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc delivers a vibrant and harmonious wine, aged for 12-13 months in barriques.
- Pergolaia – Predominantly Sangiovese with touches of Merlot and Cabernet, this wine is more agile, fresh, and straightforward, reflecting the sunlit elegance of the Tuscan Coast. Aged in large oak casks for 12 months.
- Essenzia di Caiarossa – A special collection produced only in the best vintages, created from the most expressive grapes. A unique wine, available in magnum format, celebrating the essence of each harvest.

A Sensory and Cultural Experience
Beyond producing high-quality wines, Caiarossa is part of the “Toscana Wine Architecture” project, and offers exclusive visits through its winery, vineyards, and barrel cellars. A journey through light, color, and matter, in the heart of the most authentic Tuscany.
Caiarossa is not just wine: it is a vision of beauty, a model of sustainability, and above all, an invitation to discover the natural power of the Tuscan Coast, one glass at a time.
About Caiarossa
The energy of nature finds momentum and refuge near the medieval village of Riparbella, on the Tuscan Coast: lush vegetation, fruit trees, olive trees, vegetables, and aromatic plants bring to life the colors, scents, and wonders of a unique territory – the land where Caiarossa stands. A magical light by day, created by the reflection of the sun’s rays on the distant sea, and a starry sky by night – this captivating atmosphere embraces the winery, red like the center of the earth, resting on the southwest slope of the hill. It was in 2004 that Eric Albada Jelgersma decided to purchase an estate in this special part of Italy, bringing with him the expertise he had developed over the years in Bordeaux with Château Giscours, a renowned Grand Cru Classé in the Margaux appellation. Eric Albada fell in love with this small yet beautiful winery, nestled in the Mediterranean scrub on the western slope of a hill overlooking the sea. Today, his children Dennis, Derk, and Valérie continue in their father’s footsteps, striving for the utmost precision in winemaking. This pursuit is centered on maintaining a deep connection with nature’s rhythms. That’s why, from its inception, the winery has followed the principles of biodynamic agriculture, aiming to enhance the vitality and resilience of the soil. Caiarossa wines are unique: refined blends that balance experimentation with harmony.
