New “Bag-in-Box” Blend Pushes the Envelope on Alternative Wine Packaging for Consumers and Accounts
Paso Robles, CA (May 15, 2025) —Linne Calodo today announced the creation of LC Red—a new estate-grown blend offered in “bag-in-box” packaging. LC Red is a high-end Grenache-based wine crafted to push the envelope and make the most of the boxed wine format. Each box ($160 retail) contains the equivalent of four standard bottles. LC Red is offered online and at the tasting room, and the winery is also taking wholesale orders from on-premise accounts.

“We want wine drinkers to experience what is possible from a boxed wine,” said Winemaker Matt Trevisan. “With the latest packaging technology, the quality of a boxed wine can be comparable to any bottle—and there are other advantages to consider as well.”
The creation of LC Red was inspired by a collaborative effort launched by the Merriman’s Hawaii restaurant group, which asked a handful of its standout by-the-glass producers to create boxed offerings. ““Merriman’s is at the forefront of sustainable restaurant practices and carbon neutrality,” Trevisan said. “Boxed wine makes a lot of environmental sense for by-the-glass programs, especially in Hawaii where glass has to be transported and recycled back on the mainland.”
Linne Calodo answered the call with LC Red, its first-ever boxed wine—which is now being expanded as a direct-to-consumer offering and as a unique option for on-premise accounts. The wine is a blend of Grenache (72%), Syrah (20%) and Mourvèdre (8%) from Linne Calodo’s estate Stonethrower Vineyard in the Willow Creek District of Paso Robles. LC Red was made in a style that emphasizes a fresh, fruit-forward drinking experience, making it perfect for the boxed wine format.
Eco and Consumer Friendly
LC Red aligns with Linne Calodo’s commitment to proprietary “nature positive” practices, which include no-till; dry farming; carbon sequestration through mixed cover crops; sheep grazing to manage cover crops; and energy and water conservation in the cellar. Similarly, the boxed wine format conserves energy, reduces costs and minimizes waste.
Additionally, LC Red can be consumed for several weeks after opening as the bag-in-box technology keeps the wine fresh and resistant to oxidation.
“LC Red augments traditional wine enjoyment,” Trevisan said. “It’s perfect for people who just want to have a glass of great wine here and there at home, and for restaurateurs who can be confident that every glass they pour is consistent.”
