Cosimo Capasso: The New Campanian Winery Awarded at the Vinitaly Design Award a High-Altitude Project Blending Myth, Elegance, and Design

At Italy’s most important wine fair, a bronze award was given for best packaging design in the wine category.
Under the guidance of Pierpaolo Sirch, this new winery is focusing on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grown between 650 and 1,000 meters above sea level: a high-altitude challenge in the heart of Campania.

April 10, 2025 (VERONA) – It won over the judges of the Vinitaly Design Award even before launching its wines on the market: Cantina Cosimo Capasso is a new wine venture born in Campania, nestled in the highlands of Monte Taburno, with the goal of merging an international vision with a deep-rooted local identity. The Bronze award received in the competition dedicated to the best wine design marks the official debut of this ambitious project, with its first bottles set to be released in October 2025.

A prestigious recognition, awarded right in the context of Vinitaly, Italy’s most important wine exhibition, which has already turned the spotlight on a winery that stands out for its vision, originality, and aesthetic consistency. Winning the Vinitaly Design Award is not just a symbolic milestone, but a concrete first step in telling the story of a well-defined identity—one that begins with the bottle and reaches the glass.

At the heart of the winery is Cosimo Capasso, 31 years old, whose family has always been involved in agriculture and is now taking on a new challenge: mountain viticulture. Cosimo Capasso decided to shape his dream starting from a simple intuition: believing in the strength of his land.

The journey began in 2020 on the steep slopes of Taburno, where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are now cultivated between 650 and 1,000 meters above sea level. A bold and identity-driven choice, the result of a soil study led by Pierpaolo Sirch, an internationally renowned wine expert. His contribution guided the selection of grape varieties best suited to the territory and reinforced a vision focused on quality, sustainability, and respect for the land.

What caught the attention of the Vinitaly Design Award jury was the innovative approach the winery took in telling its story: through a symbolic bottle, designed by Mario Di Paolo, one of the most respected designers on the international scene.

The bronze statue of Hercules, sculpted in relief on the label, pays tribute to the legend linking the hero to Monte Taburno. A powerful nod to origins, to the strength of challenge, and to the story of a land that demands much but gives back even more.

The Pinot Noir bottle stands out with its embossed family crestside engraving of the winery’s name, and a refined golden window revealing the cork, free from any flashy capsule. Sobriety, precision, authenticity: every detail is designed to reflect the winery’s vision.

The Chardonnay bottle follows a coherent aesthetic line but with a distinct identity: textured and refined materials, an embossed label featuring the bronze Hercules, and a visual and tactile structure that is essential and elegant. A choice that perfectly mirrors the wine’s style: deep, luminous, precise—able to express the verticality and purity of altitude.

The first harvest took place in 2023, and the vineyards now cover 10 hectares. The official release of the wines is expected in October 2025, but the project has already drawn attention and recognition, thanks also to the architectural innovations in development for the future winery.Cosimo Capasso is a new name, but one that carries the strength of a clear vision: to build, with care and character, a mountain wine that stands out. And to leave a mark—just as it already has in Verona.
