March 12, 2025 — The 64th Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges wine auction, led for the first time by iDealWine, France’s leading wine auction house, took place at the Château du Clos de Vougeot. Although the 2024 harvest was historically low due to challenging weather conditions, the quality of the wines was exceptional.
The total sale of 35.5 barrels of the 2024 vintage amounted to $868,133 (€796,000) (vs. 144 barrels in 2023). The average price per barrel was +41.5% higher than at the previous sale, testifying to the mobilization of buyers in an uncertain economic climate.
Albert Bichot’s historic support for Hospices de Nuits
Albert Bichot, an independent family winery founded in 1831, is a significant patron of culture and heritage in Burgundy. While Albert Bichot has been the leading buyer at the Hospices de Beaune wine auction for over 25 years, the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges auction remains a great moment for the House, especially given its historical ties to it. Until the 14th century, the Hospices de Nuits wines were matured in the cellars of the Domaine du Clos Frantin in Nuits-Saint-Georges, a property neighboring the hospital, which is now owned by Albert Bichot.
A strong commitment despite the small number of pieces on sale
Maison Albert Bichot acquired 9 barrels of the 35.5 barrels put on sale this year for $264,970 (€242,500), which represents 30% of the value and 25% of the volume of the sale. The Cuvée des Bienfaiteurs, with proceeds benefiting the “Coucou Nous Voilou” association for hospitalized children, raised over $58,776 (€53,900) thanks to the generosity of 96 donors, including Albert Bichot. For the first time, the cuvée des Bienfaiteurs is a Nuits-Saint-Georges blanc 1er cru Les Terres Blanches Cuvée Pierre de Pême, a testament to the growing popularity of white wines from this fine appellation. For the first time, the Hospices de Nuits offered a sale of 240 bottles and 120 magnums from their wine library, in vintages ranging from 2005 to 2017, raising a further $66,463 (€60,950).
