Maryland Wineries Association Announces New Board President

Melissa Aellen Chosen for Leadership Skills and Dedication to Industry

March 10, 2025 (Annapolis, Maryland) — The Maryland Wineries Association announced today the appointment of Melissa Aellen, of Linganore Winecellars and Simple Theory Wine Co, as the President of the Board of Directors. In her role as president of the association, Aellen will preside over all Maryland Wineries Association meetings, assist with membership initiatives and guide major policy discussions at this critical time of industry growth.

“Melissa has been an industry leader for years and we look forward to her dedication in the role of president of the association,” said Janna Howley, Executive Director of the Maryland Wineries Association.

Aellen is the third-generation vintner and the Director of Winery Operations at Linganore Winecellars and Simple Theory Wine Co, where she oversees all aspects of production and daily operations. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Viticulture and Enology from Cornell University, Aellen gained hands-on experience in 6 wineries across the U.S. and New Zealand before returning home to Maryland. She also holds an Executive MBA, combining her winemaking expertise with a strong business acumen. Aellen is deeply committed to advancing the Maryland wine industry, advocating for sustainability, innovation, and collaboration to elevate the region’s reputation and ensure its continued growth for future generations.
