March 5, 2025 (Paris, France) — In 2024, iDealwine, the global leader in online wine auctions and the go-to online wine retailer, generated a €53.2 million turnover (excluding tax), a 6% increase over the previous year. This growth can be mainly attributed to its auctions which reached new records in 2024 thanks to increased volumes sold. Driven by its international development, the French SMB continues to grow despite a slump in the wine market.
2024 – A record year for auctions, helped by increased volumes
In 2024, 261,465 bottles (when scaled to 750ml) were auctioned by International Wine Auction, iDealwine’s subsidiary, with a 17.7% uptick in volume. These auctions created a €39.1 million turnover, a 15% increase. Meanwhile, the average price of a bottle settled at €149, a slight decline of 1.9 %. The €2.1 million generated at the spirit auctions on Fine Spirits Auction, a joint venture between iDealwine and La Maison du Whisky, can be added to the total auction figure.
A bottle of 2020 Romanée-Conti at the top
Against a backdrop of stabilising prices, the average price at auction for bottles of Burgundy wine stands at €250, an unchanged statistic from 2023. The highest-priced bottle of 2024 was a 2020 Romanée-Conti from the eponymous estate, which was bought at auction for €20,375 by an Italian wine enthusiast. This results mirrors the success of wines from the famous Côte de Nuits producer, whose bottles appreciated in value in 2024 (+6%) – an exception as other iconic producers saw their prices fall for the most part last year.
2025 – A year of great challenges for iDealwine
Cyrille Jomand, CEO of iDealwine and certified auctioneer, said “iDealwine withstood the tests that 2024 threw at the wine market and saw its turnover grow by 6%. This result is thanks to, in part, the in-depth website updates in May 2024, which offer wine enthusiasts around the world so much more fluidity when purchasing bottles.”
iDealwine’s co-founders feel confident about 2025, which will mark the next step for the business that was created a quarter of a century ago in 2000. The company was chosen to organise the prestigious and historic Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges auction, which takes place on Sunday 9 March at Château du Clos de Vougeot. Wine enthusiasts can bid at the auction in person or online on the Drouot Live website. iDealwine has worked to modernise this auction as well as giving it international exposure as up until now, it’s been Burgundy’s best kept secret.
2025 also marks the next international adventure for the company as it is on the cusp of opening its office in New York (it will open its doors in April). This new address can be added to the five other offices in Paris, Bordeaux, Beaune, Hong Kong and Singapore. Lionel Cuenca, Deputy Managing Director added, “The momentum of the American market, the quality of the clients who are already using our services and their appreciation of rare and niche fine wine offers a unique opportunity to develop iDealwine’s presence in the country, and this is in spite of the additional import fees that will likely be added to European products.”
