May 22nd – NAPA VALLEY, Calif., – Step into a legacy of musical excellence as Music in the Vineyards proudly presents its 30th Anniversary Season! From August 2 to 25, 2024, this beloved chamber music festival will celebrate three decades of enchanting audiences with world-class performances in the idyllic settings of Napa Valley’s iconic wineries. At every concert, explore a nostalgic exhibit of memorabilia from the last 30 years, including a photo archive and the MITV Trivia contest.
Since 1995, Music in the Vineyards has been dedicated to enriching people’s lives through the power of music. The 30th festival will honor MITV’s past while looking ahead to a vibrant future, featuring a diverse array of concerts, special events, and unique experiences that blend the magic of music with the beauty of wine country.
“Music in the Vineyards has always been about creating intimate and unforgettable experiences where the beauty of chamber music and the splendor of Napa Valley come together,” said Co-Artistic Director Michael Adams. “Our 30th anniversary season is a celebration of the journey we’ve taken and the exciting path ahead.”
30th Anniversary Season Highlights:
- Opening Night at Frog’s Leap Winery (Aug 2): The festival kicks off with “Spring Ahead!” featuring Beethoven’s Spring Sonata, Vivaldi’s Spring from The Four Seasons, and Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring.
- String Quartet Extravaganza: Enjoy performances by three renowned string quartets—the Miró, Pacifica, and Isidore Quartets—each featured in a Wednesday evening recital.
- Revisiting Classics: Relive the magic of past commissions with works by Kevin Puts, Miguel del Águila, T.J. Cole, and Maria Schneider. Experience concerts at Louis Martini Winery and Spottswoode Winery, two cherished venues from MITV’s early years.
- Not-So-Silent Cinema (Aug 10): The popular series at the Jarvis Conservatory features classic silent films with newly composed music by festival musicians.
- Community Engagement & Education: Our interactive Concert for the Community returns on August 17th with a play-along of the Pachelbel Canon (bring a kazoo!) and music by Vivaldi, Mozart, and Bottesini. Take advantage of our free open rehearsals on Thursday afternoons during the festival, as well as pre-concert talks (free for ticket holders), Ensemble Coaching, a Chamber Music Workshop (Aug 17) and a Student Master Class (Aug 13).
- Music Illuminated: Enjoy two special “Music Illuminated” events: Dmitri Shostakovich: A Life in String Quartets (Aug 10) hosted by Michael Adams, and An Evening of Music, Film, and Comedy (Aug 15) featuring the Canellakis-Brown Duo.
- 2024 Fellowship String Quartet: Welcome the Cabaletta Quartet from Juilliard, who will join MITV artists for intensive mentoring and performance opportunities, as well as free workshops and concerts around the valley.
- Grand Finale (Aug 25) – Esplêndido! – From Bach to Brazil: A dazzling celebration at Inglenook with Grammy-nominated, Brazilian musician Clarice Assad, featuring music by J.S. Bach, Antônio Carlos Jobim, and Astor Piazzolla.
