The St. Regis Venice Announces an Exclusive Wine Pairing Dinner in Partnership with Iconic Venissa Winery

Venice, Italy – (February 26, 2024) – The St. Regis Venice, an embodiment of historic elegance and modern luxury on the Grand Canal, is pleased to announce an exclusive wine pairing dinner in partnership with Venissa – a unique vineyard tucked away in the Venice Lagoon. Taking place at the hotel’s Gio’s Restaurant and Terrace on March 7, 2024, the event promises a one-of-a-kind gastronomic experience focused on the finest Veneto vintages and dishes.

“Venissa emulates The St. Regis Venice’s commitment to craftsmanship and hospitality, so naturally we are honoured to be partnering with them for this unmissable wine pairing experience,” said Patrizia Hofer, General Manager of The St. Regis Venice. “We hope this dinner will spark curiosity among the guests for all that our great region has to offer.”

Curated by the hotel’s Executive Chef Giuseppe Ricci, the four-course set menu showcases a blend of modern Italian cuisine with Venetian influence made from locally sourced ingredients. With each course, guests will have the opportunity to savour several exquisite vintages from the estate’s vineyards on Santa Cristina and Mazzorbo islands. These vineyards have withstood the Venetian lagoon’s salt and high flood waters for centuries, giving the wine one-of-a-kind characteristics found nowhere else in the world. The tasting will be guided by the hotel’s Wine Manager and Sommelier Miriam Jessica Quartesan and a Venissa representative.

Venissa is home to the world’s only hectare of the rare, golden-hued Dorona grape beloved by local royalty 500 years ago. Considered lost until its re-discovery in 2002 by Matteo Bisol of Venissa Winery, Dorona grape is now flourishing within an ancient walled vineyard on the Venissa property, producing a precious wine that is uniquely Venetian.

For those interested in learning more about what the lagoon and Veneto region have to offer, guests are welcome to book “A Day with Chef Giuseppe Ricci” package where they will join the dynamic Italian on his morning market rounds to the Vignole and Murano Islands followed by a chef-led cooking session and lunch in the kitchen.

The Venissa wine paring dinner is open to 12 guests, will take place from 8 p.m. onwards and is priced at 150€ per person for four courses paired with wine. The book the experience, please reach out to gios@stregis.com or call +39 041 240 0001.

About Venissa

Venissa is a project of agricultural rejuvenation and sustainable hospitality set on Mazzorbo Island. Here, we want to have a proactive role in the protection of the integrity and the authenticity of Native Venice through the conservation and valorization of historical and traditional knowledge and practices. Everything began with a strong desire to give a new life to the Dorona, the native grape variety of the lagoon that almost disappeared after the destructive flood of 1966. Within the walled vineyard of the Venissa estate, we reinstituted the century-old tradition of viticulture in the lagoon, rediscovering the symbiosis between the Dorona and its terroir of origin.

The Venissa Bianco – the flagship wine of the estate – is born from the symbiotic relationship between the Dorona and the terroir of Mazzorbo Island, in the Northern lagoon, where the roots of the vines capture the quintessence and complexity of this extraordinary ecosystem. It is a wine of great character and refinement, resulting from a long maceration that is reminiscent of the local winemaking tradition. A wine that aims at being the perfect expression of Native Venice and its natural and cultural heritage even through its bottle: symbol of venetian craftmanship traditions, Berta Battiloro and the Albertini Spezzamonte family.
