The €100,000 PFV Prize of 2024 Is Open for Applications until 30th November 2023
After the French firm Brun de Vian-Tiran, manufacturer of noble fibers since 1808, winner of the 2022 Prize, and Maison Bernard in Belgium, Europe’s oldest violin workshop, winner of the first Prize, who will be the next most wonderful family business in the world in 2024?
The Primum Familiae Vini (PFV), an association of twelve European families who own renowned wine estates, has announced that the 2024 PFV Prize is open for applications. Created in 2020, the biennial PFV Prize aims to support the family business model by encouraging family continuity, excellence in craftsmanship, sustainability and the successful transmission of responsibility from one generation to the next.
Any family-owned company from anywhere in the world, in any area of activity, is eligible for this valuable biennial prize and can apply before 30th November 2023.
The PFV represents the deep artisan roots of family companies who are committed to the absolute quality of their wines and all have a long history of dedication to their respective regions. The PFV Prize’s jury is looking for companies sharing the same values and vision of business as the PFV members.
Matthijs Strick, Maison Bernard: “Plenty of great prizes exist around the world, of course the Nobel Prize, but a Prize that is given to a working family that has hundreds of years behind it, it didn’t exist. So this beautiful Prize that we received was really very important emotionally for us. Winning this Prize also gave us a lot of publicity worldwide and outside of our profession. We are known in our musical world but this recognition really goes beyond that.”
Jean-Louis Brun, Maison Brun de Vian-Tiran: “I was touched to receive the PFV Prize because our family has been struggling for 8 generations, over 2 centuries, to maintain our employment in France, to maintain our long-term relationship with shepherds, with distributors, and with consumers. It has not been an easy task so it really means something to receive such an award from world-renowned people who work on excellence in other family businesses. It encourages us to keep doing what we have been doing so far and the families awarding this Prize are inspiring examples of brand building, awareness building, public relations, design and this will help us to strive to go beyond what we have achieved so far.”

The PFV Short List of five family-owned companies will be published in January 2024 and the PFV Prize winner will be announced in March 2024.
