Dundee, Oregon (June 10, 2022) — Dobbes Family Estate and Wine by Joe are proud to announce LIVE Certification for their Dundee winery and tasting room. Celebrating 20 years in 2022, Dobbes Family Estate’s latest certification demonstrates the winery’s ongoing commitment to sustainability in all facets of their business.
LIVE Certification standards include resource preservation and energy efficiency as well as standards for workplace sustainability. To obtain certification for its winery, Dobbes Family Estate tracked and implemented strategies to reduce its resource usage, including water, natural gas, electricity, materials, and more. Obtaining certification also means tracking worker benefits, safety training, volunteer time, and charitable giving.
Fittingly, the pursuit for LIVE Certification was born out of a staff initiative called All Day Every Day, wherein employees share projects that inspire them. Danielle Lafayette, Dobbes’ Laboratory Technician & Sustainability Coordinator, brought the LIVE Winery Certification program to the table. Encouraged by Dobbes Family Estate and Wine by Joe CEO Sarah Pearson, Lafayette pursued the LIVE-Certification for the Dundee winery.
Lafayette acted as the sustainability hub for the company, working with every department from packaging to events, conducting a rigorous certification process. The winery also shoulder-tapped The Energy Trust of Oregon to conduct an audit and identify areas of improvement.
In addition to insulating their 4,600-square-foot warehouse, immediate areas of improvement include forgoing styrofoam usage and moving away from resource-intensive landscaping. The winery has set a baseline for water usage and is currently pursuing multiple projects to reduce water usage.
“The wine industry as whole depends on a healthy environment, so it should be expected of us to use our natural resources in a responsible way,” says Lafayette. “This ensures the longevity of our work, and improves the quality of our wines.”
