Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards & Winery Announces 50th Anniversary Chardonnay Lot #8 for the 2022 Sonoma County Barrel Auction

Healdsburg, CA, April 27th, 2022– Marking their golden anniversary, Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards & Winery is pleased to offer a special 5-case 50th Anniversary Chardonnay lot from the 2021 vintage at the annual Sonoma County Barrel Auction (SoCoBA) which will be held in person at MacMurray Estate Vineyards on Friday, May 6th.

Chalk Hill’s “never before, never again” lot #8 is made from 100% Chalk Hill Proprietary Clone 97, developed in partnership with UC Davis between 1996-2001. During this time, Chalk Hill conducted one of the largest and longest maintained Chardonnay clonal trials in California and in doing so cemented its legacy as a producer of luxury Chardonnays. Chalk Hill is the only producer to grow this clone, making it truly a one-of-a-kind Chardonnay.

“We are delighted to offer such a special wine that reflects the diversity and richness of our beautiful estate that my family considers home. Whoever is fortunate enough to take our lot home will be gaining more than a wine, but also a true taste of this very special place,” says Courtney Foley, Second Generation Vintner, Foley Family Wines.

Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards & Winery is committed to creating terroir-driven wines of character, richness and elegance from the diverse terrain of Sonoma County’s rolling hills. Known for its terroir-driven, native yeast fermentation Chardonnays, Chalk Hill allows the site to shine through with minimal winemaking intervention, site-specific farming practices and thoughtfully planting each vineyard site, the foundation of Chalk Hill’s 50 years of viticulture. With a passionate dedication to Chardonnay, they showcase the incredible diversity of their estate vineyards to make the best quality wines possible with a vision for generations to come.

The vineyard and winery lie within the Chalk Hill AVA, a warmer sub-region of the Russian River Valley. The 1,300-acre estate has 300 acres of 100% certified sustainable vineyards, 4.5 acres of organic culinary gardens and a CSWA certified winery. This 50th Anniversary Chardonnay is the result of 100% native, barrel and malolactic fermentation, and sur lie aging; it is unfined and unfiltered. This special 5-case lot is now available for viewing on the SoCoBA website, along with details about the 2022 events. Trade registration is by invitation only and open now.
