SONOMA (December 16, 2024) – La Prenda Vineyard Management is honored to have been awarded the “Next Wave of Sustainability” by the Fish Friendly Farming program.
La Prenda Vineyards Management has been certified by the California Land Stewardship Institute (CLSI) under the Fish Friendly Farming Certification Program since 2020. CLSI is a non-profit organization dedicated to planning and implementing environmental stewardship, restoration and enhancement programs and projects. It includes scientific studies, promotion of beneficial stewardship practices and resources conservation activities on public and private lands and waterways. Fish Friendly Farming certified is one of the approved programs for Sonoma County Winegrowers Sustainable Certification.
“I was very fortunate to grow up in the Sonoma Valley and as a kid caught numerous trout in our local creeks, so it’s very important to me that we “farm lightly” and continue to maintain and enhance the environment with our farming practices,” said Ned Hill. “With the numerous sightings of salmon returning to our watershed this winter I think it’s a testament to our Fish Friendly Farming practices.”
According to a press release from Sonoma County Winegrowers, “The Fish Friendly Farming program provides a critical third-party certification of environmentally beneficial land practices (BMPs) that assist growers in protecting and enhancing the local environment, waterways and wildlife. Scientists work with the growers to complete the farm assessment and maps, and collaborate on the development of the farm plan that identifies the needed BMPs for each site. Certification is carried out by regulatory agency scientists following the completion of a detailed farm plan. The Founders Award recognizes growers who have been certified for at least 20 years, have actively implemented BMPs and projects identified in their farm plans and have consistently passed audits and recertifications. These award winners have proven their dedication to sustainability, the environment and the community.”
The press release continued, “the Fish Friendly Farming program is also recognizing growers who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in implementing BMPs and projects identified in their Farm Plans but are newer to the program than the Founders’ Award recipients. This category of awards is called the “Next Wave of Sustainability”’.
