Bread & Butter Wines Announces ‘Sliced’ Chardonnay, Cutting Calories and Alcohol While Maintaining Signature Flavors

Less really is more… without compromising a bold taste, Sliced Chardonnay has only 85 calories per serving and 9% alcohol

Napa, California – April 2, 2024 – Bread & Butter Wines today announced the introduction of Bread & Butter Sliced, a new Chardonnay with just 85 calories per serving and 9% alcohol by volume (ABV). According to an International Wine & Spirit Research (IWSR) survey of U.S. consumers who drink alcohol, over 50% said they were moderating their consumption. The “moderation mindset” is especially prevalent among Gen Z consumers, with the highest reported usage of low-ABV and non-alcoholic beverages of any age group at 64%, according to data from Mintel. Bread & Butter’s classic Chardonnay is one of the brand’s top performing varietals, and with the introduction of Bread & Butter Sliced, the winery now offers an alternative for consumers looking to cut back on calories and alcohol without sacrificing taste and flavor.

“Our consumers are consciously making decisions to moderate their consumption and we want to be where our consumers are going. Bread & Butter Sliced is the first subline for Bread & Butter. By mirroring the classic Bread & Butter Chardonnay taste profile, we are providing a familiar style to current fans, while also bringing in new shoppers with a wine that truly tastes like the varietal it represents. Plus, as the name implies, we’re slicing off calories with lower alcohol,” explains Patrick Cramb, Vice President of Global Marketing for Bread & Butter Wines.

Rather than starting from scratch to create a new wine, the winemaking team began with Bread & Butter’s classic Chardonnay and then scaled back the calories while maintaining the strong aromatics and bold fruit flavors consumers have come to expect from Bread & Butter wines. The level of alcohol is the primary contributor to calories in wine, so the lower ABV is paramount for Bread & Butter Sliced.

“Chardonnay is one of the signature varietals for Bread & Butter, and our big style of Chardonnay is ideal for reducing the calories without sacrificing the rich flavors and aromas,” explained Bread & Butter Winemaker, Linda Trotta. “We believe the good things in life shouldn’t be complicated, including wine. With Bread & Butter Sliced, our customers are getting the same great quality and taste they expect from Bread & Butter with fewer calories. It’s that easy.”

Bread & Butter Sliced Chardonnay is rolling out onto shelves nationwide this spring with a suggested retail price of $16. For more information on Bread & Butter Wines and Sliced Chardonnay, visit breadandbutterwines.com
