Princeton, New Jersey – February 9 The Winemakers Co-Op; a collective dedicated to driving the burgeoning fine wine movement in New Jersey, announces their first event of 2024, The Breadth of Bubbly: a deep dive into sparkling winemaking.
The event will feature a roster of well-regarded winemakers, sparkling wine experts and leading packaging consultants who will break down sparkling winemaking and packaging. Dedicated to touching on the full spectrum of sparkling wine styles, including traditional method, charmat, method ancestral (pétillant-naturel) and more experimental styles like forced carbonation.
The event includes sessions that focus on specific areas of traditional method winemaking including The Art of Assemblage with Gilles Martin, Winemaker at North Fork’s all-sparkling producer Sparkling Pointe; and Fred Merwarth, visionary winemaker, and co-owner at Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard, who will lead attendees through how autolytic character impacts a wine’s taste profile overtime in Mapping Autolysis: the journey through time in bottle. Manveer Sandhu, Executive Director of Winemaking at Northern California’s Rack & Riddle Custom Wine Services; who leads the #1 custom sparkling wine producer in the United States; will share his expertise in both Charmat production with Winemaking Introduction to Charmat Production and traditional method with Final Steps in Méthode Champenoise Production: Disgorgement and Dosage. Dwayne Bershaw, Enology Lecturer, Cornell University will help translate the science in sparkling winemaking with his session The Science Behind Sparkling Wine. Alex Katz, winemaker at sustainably focused Protector Cellars will lead a thought provoking session on Non-traditional Effervescence: Contemporary Approaches to Classical Methods. Award-winning global alcohol beverage design firm Denomination’s Managing Director Meghan Read will lead a virtual session exploring packaging and branding – Behind the Bottle: Packaging Strategy and Design. A group discussion on the popular sparkling style pétillant-naturel will give attendees a chance to discuss winemaking challenges while tasting a cross-section of examples.
