Xanadu Wines Short Listed for 2024 Halliday Wine Companion Awards

Recognition Comes on Heels of 2023 Halliday Winemaker of the Year Award

Melbourne, Australia – (July 26, 2023) – Xanadu Wines has once again been recognized by the Halliday Wine Companion Awards. The winery has been shortlisted as a “Best Value Winery” for 2024. This follows last year’s award of 2023 Halliday Winemaker of the Year, given to Senior Winemaker Glenn Goodall.

Xanadu Wines is in the 2024 “Best Value Winery” category, which recognizes wines that offer value for money, whatever their price point. In their tastings the Halliday team assigns special recognition in the form of “rosettes” to wines that display this value, and wineries whose wines have an abundance of these rosettes rise to the top of this category. In fact, Xanadu was also nominated for the 2023 Halliday “Best Value Winery” last year. In that edition it was noted that, “when it comes to value, Western Australia leads the country”.

Xanadu has long set the standard for top-quality wines with varietal and regional integrity. Senior Winemaker Glenn Goodall has crafted Xanadu wines for over 20 years and works closely with viticulturist Rob Underdown to improve quality and better showcase the brilliance of the vineyard with each new growing season. This attention to detail and regional focus results in excellence at every price point, which is reflected in the nomination for “Best Value Winery” for the second year in a row.

Glenn and his team have tallied up an unbelievable 339 gold medals and 127 trophies across regional and national wine shows. These awards include the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy, Australia’s Best Cabernet & Chardonnay, and many others.

In the quest to produce the best wines that Margaret River can offer, Xanadu has also helped define the standards for Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, and in 2011, became one of the first wineries in Western Australia to achieve certified status, and the first to use the SWA Trustmark on their labels. This holistic approach to grape growing requires sustainable operations in the winery as well as the vineyard, minimizing energy and water usage, reducing the carbon footprint, cultivating biodiversity, and proper tending of natural waterways.

The tasting team for the Halliday Wine Companion Awards is comprised of nine note wine experts and reviewers, including James Halliday AM himself. They tasted through more than 8,500 wines this year to make their selections. Categories of recognition include: Winery of the Year, Winemaker of the Year, Viticulturalist of the Year, Best Value Winery, Best New Winery, and Dark Horse Winery. The winners of these awards will be announced at the Halliday Wine Companion Awards ceremony which will take place on August 2, 2023 in St. Kilda, Victoria. The 2024 Halliday Wine Companion will be released the following day.
