The family-owned winery releases the latest vintage of its flagship white wine
NAPA VALLEY, Calif. (June 21, 2023) — Flora Springs, a family-owned and -operated winery in Napa Valley, takes great pride in introducing the 2022 vintage of its flagship white wine, Soliloquy. This latest iteration of Soliloquy represents the pinnacle of the winery’s collection, exemplifying Flora Springs’ connection to the land and unwavering commitment to crafting exceptional wines.
The first bottling of Soliloquy took place in 1989; the wine was derived from a clone unique to Flora Springs that possessed an unprecedented flavor profile, appropriately described as “an artful monologue for the senses.” Thus, the wine was aptly named Soliloquy, signifying its unparalleled expression of a singular varietal, terroir and moment in time. Devastatingly, in the years following the clone’s discovery, a viral outbreak resulted in the loss of many vines, prompting the family to embark on a journey to preserve the essence of this remarkable wine. Through painstaking recovery efforts over the course of a decade, including cloning and vine propagation, Flora Springs successfully replicated the one-of-a-kind vines and effectively replaced the previously diseased vineyard with thriving vines. Throughout the process, Flora Springs General Manager Nat Komes collaborated with winemakers in extensive blending trials, drawing upon his memory to re-create the wine and ultimately crafting a masterpiece singular to both Napa and Flora Springs.
The 2022 vintage of Soliloquy is meticulously composed of 80% Sauvignon Blanc, forming the foundation with opulent flavors and lively acidity; 10% Chardonnay, delivering a creamy mouthfeel and notes of Bosc pear and apple; and 10% Malvasia, providing beguiling notes of citrus flower and aromatic jasmine.
“This new vintage of Soliloquy was grown during a season that was near ideal,” says Winemaker Enrico Bertoz. “Upon harvesting in October, we found the 2022 Soliloquy to have perfect acidity and freshness accompanied by remarkable flavors and textures — a truly delicious rendering of our finest white wine.”
In conjunction with Trilogy, Soliloquy stands as one of Flora Springs’ flagship wines, embodying the winery’s dedication to producing wines of the highest quality. Komes affectionately refers to Soliloquy as “Flora Springs’ love letter from the Napa Valley,” paying homage to his grandmother, the winery’s matriarch and muse, Flora Komes.
