Temecula Wines Were Among the Highest Rated in 2023 Toast of the Coast Wine Competition

33 Temecula Valley Wines Received Double Gold and Gold Awards – Carter Estate Winery Takes Home Best of Show

TEMECULA, CALIF. (April 25, 2023) – Temecula Wines is proud to announce that a total of 33 wines produced by its member wineries have received Double Gold and Gold ratings at this year’s annual Toast of the Coast Wine Competition, produced by the San Diego County Fair. The Competition awarded six Temecula Valley Wineries with a Double Gold rating, while 27 received a Gold rating. Thirteen Temecula wines also took home best-of category prizes known as ‘Director’s Awards’ – including Carter Estate Winery’s 2016 Blanc de Blanc Lot 0004, South Coast AVA, which was awarded the overall Toast of the Coast award as Best of Show, it was also recognized as the competition’s Best of Show Sparkling Wine and Best Sparkling Blanc de Blanc.

On February 25 and 26, wineries from around the world gathered at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar, Calif., and were judged by 12 wine-credentialed judges, including winemakers, journalists, educators, sommeliers, and more. More than 570 wines were judged, with several from Temecula Valley Wine Country among the judge’s favorites.

“We are extremely proud that several Temecula Valley wineries received Double Gold and Gold medals at the highly regarded Toast of the Coast Competition this year,” said Krista Chaich, Executive Director of the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association. “It is an honor to have our wines be recognized with Director’s Awards – including the Toast of the Coast Best of Show award – a true testament to the talent and dedication of our winemakers and the suitability of our region for growing top-quality wine grapes.”
