Founded in 1821 in Gambellara, Veneto, ZONIN 1821 is a group that produces quality Made in Italy products, renowned for having contributed to the international export of Italian wine-growing culture and its valued products.
At the beating heart of this all-Italian entrepreneurial venture is the Zonin Family. Over the course of seven generations, it has cultivated, handed down and brought to life unique heritage, with an eye constantly focused on the future: care for the territory, enhancement of local wine-making traditions, respect for biodiversity, technical experimentation, innovation in production processes and sustainable development are the elements that express the company’s DNA.
Business culture, technological innovation and responsibility. The Group promotes all aspects of sustainable development: environmental, economic and social. Among the numerous activities performed to preserve the soil and ecosystem, the company commits to limiting the use of technical equipment in wine-going, rationalizing water resources for vineyard irrigation, favoring the use of renewable and clean energy sources, protecting local flora and fauna, and implementing reforestation where necessary.
Present in over 140 countries around the world thanks to the support of over 500 associates who work in Italy and in four branches (United States, United Kingdom, China and Sweden), the group promotes these values through the synergy of complementary brands that it has created or acquired during the course of its history. With production spread over a surface area of more than 4,000 hectares, the group produces and distributes not only still wines and sparkling wines under the ZONIN brand, but also the prestigious wines of the family’s Italian estates: Ca’ Bolani in Friuli, Castello del Poggio in Piedmont, Oltrenero in Lombardy, Castello di Albola and Rocca di Montemassi in Tuscany, Masseria Altemura in Apulia and Principi di Butera in Sicily. These excellent Made in Italy products are joined by the wines produced in the two foreign estates: Barboursville Vineyards in Virginia, United States, and Dos Almas in Chile.
In the different estates, the wine production activity is complemented by hospitality. The importance given to this activity has a considerable symbolic meaning, since it expresses the role of ZONIN 1821 in promoting education in this sector, respecting the typical diversities of each territory and promoting local know-how. Precisely based on this vision, there is a museum tour dedicated to wine-growing culture that is open to all visitors in the historic offices in Gambellara. Through material and immaterial testimony, the guests are accompanied in the discovery of this fascinating world: the collection of over 14,000 historic stamps, a collection of elegant wine glasses, and one of corkscrews is particularly appealing.
In addition to production and distribution, the group has developed prestigious partnerships. For example, coinciding with the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the group’s founding, the music icon Kylie Minogue and her partner in London Benchmark Drinks selected ZONIN1821 to produce Kylie Minogue Prosecco Rosé, that in just one year became the top Prosecco Rosé in the United Kingdom, and was subsequently launched in the United States thanks to its success.
The Group’s wines continue to receive celebrated acknowledgements and sought-after trophies that underscore their authoritativeness and excellence, winning prizes at international competitions such as
those of Wine Spectator, James Suckling, the Decanter World Wine Awards, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the Berliner Wine Trophy, the International Wine and Spirit Competition, the Asia Wine Trophy, the Los Angeles International Wine Competition and the Melbourne International Wine Competition.
With a turnover of approximately 200 million euros and goals for strong expansion at the global level, today the group is led by an international management team headed by Pietro Mattioni, as the CEO, alongside the brothers Domenico, Francesco and Michele Zonin, who respectively hold the roles of President and Vice President.
