Wine Pleasures reveals the awards and scores of the very first European based competition to find the 50 Great Canned Wines of the World 2023.
December 19th – The competition has seen entries ring-pulled from several countries around the world including France, Hungary, India, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and USA.
A team of 3 expert judges tasted blind and discussed each flight of wines and awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to the top 50. Wines were judged under the following entry categories: Still white, still rosé, still red, carbonated, spritzer and Sangría.Gold medals were awarded to Mimosa Royale (USA) and Anecoop (Spain) both producers with cans in the carbonated wine category. A total of 31 Silver medals and 16 Bronze medals were awarded.
Competiton Director, Anthony Swift said “Canned wine production and sales have been developing apace in the New World for several years and judging by the brands displayed at online retailers and the increasing amount of shelf space in supermarket fridges, the canned wine movement is clearly becoming more and more popular in the Old World. That said however, many of the producers competing in the competition based in Europe reported that most of their production is currently exported to the USA”.
