Black Box Wines Introduces “Savvy Man” National Media Campaign Starring Adam Scott, and Launches Two New Line Extensions

E & J. Gallo Winery continues to democratize wine with a strong commitment to the perennial leader in the growing premium three-liter box wine category

MODESTO, Calif., March 16, 2022 – The most celebrated premium three-liter boxed wine producer, Black Box Wines, is poised once again to redefine the category. In addition to the introduction of their new Savvy Man spokesperson, portrayed by actor Adam Scott in a new national media campaign, Black Box is launching six new Taste-Forward and Brilliant Collection wines to their diverse and expansive portfolio. Acquired by E. & J. Gallo Winery in 2021, these Black Box initiatives reflect Gallo’s spirit of innovation and ability to respond quickly to consumer tastes.

The Savvy Man, Black Box’s first-ever spokesperson, invites viewers to take a savvier approach to enjoying wine. Portrayed by Adam Scott, star of the critically acclaimed Apple+ series Severance as well as hits like Parks and Recreation and Big Little Lies, the smooth, confident Savvy Man cleverly highlights Black Box’s highly acclaimed wines, his wit and charm helping demystify the category and make premium boxed wines more approachable and inclusive. The savvy spots are rolling out this month across top streaming and digital partners like Roku, Hulu, and YouTube. 

Gallo continues its efforts to democratize wine with Black Box by leveraging its industry-leading consumer research, which has shown that bold flavor notes attract new consumers. The new Taste-Forward portfolio embraces that philosophy with offerings that clearly signal wine style and taste profile as well as traditional high-quality cues like variety and appellation. The first entry in the line, Buttery Chardonnay, hit shelves in late 2021. This month, Black Box adds Tart & Tangy Sauvignon Blanc, Vibrant & Velvety Red Blend and Deep & Dark Cabernet Sauvignon, each priced at $22 SRP.

Additionally, it’s clear that many consumers are currently engaging in wines that offer high taste impact with lower calories than their traditional counterparts. Black Box is meeting these consumers with the Brilliant Collection, which includes Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvignon ($22 SRP). At 70 calories per five-ounce serving, the three great-tasting Brilliant Collection wines offer traditional varieties with full flavor, dispelling the perception that lower calorie equals a lower taste profile.
