Talented 100-Point Winemaker’s Newest Release is Perfect for Connoisseurs and Casual Wine Lovers Alike
NAPA, Calif. (September 30, 2021) – The PlumpJack Collection of Wineries, a focused portfolio of world-class Napa Valley-based wineries including PlumpJack Winery, CADE Estate, Odette Estate and 13th Vineyard by CADE, is pleased to announce its newest wine, the 2018 Adaptation Cabernet Sauvignon. Helmed by Jeff Owens, who crafted Odette Estate’s inaugural 100-point release, Adaptation represents the perfect entry-point to Odette and the PlumpJack Collection of Wines at its accessible $78 price.
The Adaptation Cabernet Sauvignon is a bottled example of PlumpJack’s agility in adapting to the wine industry’s current moment of transition.
“Though the name was chosen pre-2020, the timing of Adaptation’s official debut feels especially poignant after a year where we learned to adapt in ways few of us would have thought possible,” said John Conover, managing partner of the PlumpJack Collection of Wineries. “The 2018 vintage is now a celebration of that resilience to the PlumpJack team and we can’t wait to share it with you.”
Adaptation, Napa Valley was born of decades-long friendships with the growers of some of the best sites in the Napa Valley. These relationships unlocked access to the best of the region while allowing the team to charge well-under the market value for those vineyard sources.
Adaptation was developed to depict the diversity and range of terroirs within the Napa Valley, including the mountainous terrain of Howell Mountain, the valley floor in Oak Knoll, as well as Stags Leap and Carneros District. The 2018 Adaptation Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend from Jeff Owens’ favorite local growers; the Ink Grade Vineyard gives the wine its Howell Mountain backbone, balanced by the Oso Vineyard, Odette Estate Vineyard, Blue Tooth Vineyard and Las Amigas Vineyard. The assemblage is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 2% Petite Sirah.
Opaque purple hued, the wine opens with notes of wild blackberries, luxardo cherries, plums, crème de cassis with hints of fresh spring flowers. Full bodied and beautifully ripe with elegant, well-integrated tannins and a gorgeous silky texture, the 2018 Adaptation Cabernet is delicious already, though it will age beautifully for a decade-plus. Stainless steel fermentation showcases the purity of the fruit while preserving its freshness and allowing the terroir to shine. The wine was aged in 50% new oak and 50% one-fill oak barrels with minimal racking for 18 months before bottling.
The Adaptation name goes beyond the Cabernet Sauvignon in the bottle as it represents the PlumpJack Collection of Wineries’ proven ability to stay two steps ahead of every curve. Whether it was bottling 100-point wine under sustainable screwcaps before any other Napa Valley winery, or building CADE, the first Gold LEED Certified winery in California, the PlumpJack team isn’t afraid to be the first to adapt. Whether wine drinkers take this wine along on a camping adventure and enjoy it with a cast-iron steak over an open flame or pair it with a Michelin-starred meal, this is an experiential wine that relates to both the everyday and discerning wine drinker. The abundance of color, depth and structure add to the complexity and elegance of the wine, allowing it to compete with ultra-premium Napa Cabernets, yet its adaptable nature provides the opportunity to shine on any occasion.
