Ted Henry Joins Groth as Director of Winegrowing

OAKVILLE, NAPA VALLEY, Calif. (July 6, 2021) — Ted Henry has been named Director of  Winegrowing at Groth Vineyards & Winery in Oakville, Napa Valley. Henry comes to Groth from Clos  du Val, where he served for over five years, most recently as Director of Winemaking. Prior to that he  was Winemaker at Jarvis Estate, where he worked closely with renowned winemaking consultant Dmitri  Tchelistcheff.

As Groth’s Director of Winegrowing, Henry will oversee every step of the wine-production process,  from growing the grapes to bottling the wines. This role, developed in 2014 by then-Winemaker Michael  Weis, reflects the Groth family philosophy that great wines begin in the vineyard.

“Ted shares our family’s philosophy that the greatness of our wines is born in our vineyard estates and  those of our esteemed grower partners,” President and CEO Suzanne Groth said. “His passion for  single-vineyard and estate wines and his knowledge of organic farming and how it improves wine quality  will help further Groth’s mission of continually improving our unique wines of place through  incremental advancements in farming and winemaking.”

Henry began his winemaking career in 1999 at Trinchero Family Estates, having earned his bachelor’s  degree in fermentation science at the University of California, Davis. As part of a team dedicated to the  successful establishment of Trinchero’s luxury wine program, Henry held successive positions as  enologist, assistant winemaker and ultimately associate winemaker. From there he moved to Artesa  Winery and Vineyards, where he oversaw winemaking for the acclaimed Ridgeline Vineyard. Joining  Jarvis Estate in 2008 as Winemaker, Henry earned a reputation for crafting beautifully balanced,  vineyard-driven wines. His work with estate-grown wines continued at Clos du Val.

“As our family celebrates 40 incredible years in Oakville and plans for an even brighter future, we’re  thrilled to welcome and work with someone of Ted’s caliber and deep experience in Napa Valley  winegrowing,” Suzanne Groth said.

“I have long admired the iconic, vineyard-driven wines of Groth and the family’s adherence to growing  and making wines with a distinctive sense of place,” Ted Henry said. “I look forward to working closely  with the family and grower partners as we continue to explore all aspects of our estate vineyards and the  Oakville appellation.”

About Groth Vineyards & Winery

Dennis and Judy Groth made a life-changing investment in 1981 when they bought a vineyard on  Oakville Cross Road, in the heart of Napa Valley, with hopes it would produce world-class Cabernet  Sauvignon. It didn’t take long for their intuition to be proven right. Robert Parker of the Wine Advocate  gave the Groth 1985 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon the distinction of being California’s first 100-point  wine.

Today, with Dennis and Judy’s daughter, Suzanne Groth, as President & CEO, Groth sustainably farms  two estates totaling 165 acres with the dual goals of producing the highest-quality, most elegant wines we  can while caring for our estate for future generations. The winery produces critically acclaimed Cabernet  Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
