Scheid Family Wines Releases All New VDR, Very Dark Red with 2018 Vintage

Scheid Family WinesSALINAS, California – August 26, 2020 – Scheid Family Wines of Monterey County, California is proud to announce the release of an all new VDR (Very Dark Red) with the 2018 vintage (SRP $24.99). VDR is a non-traditional proprietary red blend leading with a rare combination of Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot, two grape varieties known for their saturated hues, concentrated flavors and full-bodied profiles.

The 2018 VDR enters the marketplace with striking new packaging that features a dark burgundy label and a fully-scaled focus on the VDR initials. The back label highlights Scheid Family Wines’ commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable farming with the California Certified Sustainable Winegrowing logo and Scheid Family Wines’ 100% Powered by Wind designation.

“We are thrilled to offer consumers the redesigned VDR that holds true to its namesake with its intense deep red color and bolder dark fruit flavors from our sustainably farmed estate vineyards in beautiful Monterey. I am also excited about our new eye-catching label that highlights our commitment to sustainability,” stated Heidi Scheid, Executive VP of Scheid Family Wines.

VDR is sourced predominantly from the family’s Hames Valley Vineyard, located in the AVA of the same name, in the southernmost part of Monterey County. This unique pocket of California’s Central Coast is well-suited to grapes like Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot that thrive in dry, warm, sunny climates. Shielded by the Santa Lucia Mountains to the west and the Gabilan Range to the east, the vines are protected from the fierce afternoon winds that blow in from the coast and down the Salinas Valley. The result is ripe, concentrated fruit to craft a one-of-a-kind, over-the-top, full-bodied red blend with depth and intensity.
