A to Z Wineworks Introduces an Artist in Residence Program

NEWBERG, OR (February 17, 2020) – A to Z Wineworks is pleased to announce a fifteen-month Artist-in-Residence Program.  Beginning with a harvest internship, the immersion program continues for a full vintage including a second harvest, offering the opportunity to work and respond artistically to a full vintage.  The Artist-in-Residence will first join an international harvest crew A to Z recruits each year, now boasting 229 alumni from 21 countries.  Following harvest, the Artist-in-Residence receives support from and access to A to Z staff and properties for a year of artistic reflection and creation. During the Residency’s second harvest, time is split between winery harvest work and chronicling the vintage. The Residency concludes with a public showcase of some of the year’s work through a gallery showing, lecture, or performance.

The first Artist-in-Residence is photographer Adrian Chitty, a 2019 harvest crew member. Mr. Chitty holds a master’s degree in Physics from Oxford University, and worked in investment banking for 17 years, most recently as a Vice President & Senior Engineer at Goldman Sachs. He and his family recently relocated to Oregon after a sabbatical year in Indonesia.

From Adrian, “I am delighted, as the first Artist in Residence at A to Z Wineworks, to have the opportunity to create a long form project by spending a year in the life of the vineyards and winery.  I want my Residency to embody many of the same qualities that I observe in winemaking:  to take time, to evolve with what is observed, and to create something of lasting quality and value.”
