Nine Wineries on a 1.5 Mile Stretch Partner on Second-Annual Calkins Lane Block Party, Marking Their Road in the Chehalem Mountains as a Top Tasting Destination in the Willamette Valley
Newberg, OR (February 4, 2025) – Nestled in a perfect pocket surrounded by the Chehalem Mountains, Dundee Hills, and Ribbon Ridge, sits Calkins Lane which is home to some of the Willamette Valley’s oldest vines and premier wines, putting it on the map as a top tasting destination.
In 2024, for the first time in the lane’s history, Adelsheim, Anacreon, Arborbrook, Arlyn, Bacus, Balsall Creek, de Lancellotti, Haakon Lenai, and Lachini partnered together to host the inaugural Calkins Lane Block Party. Spearheaded and hosted by Adelsheim, this unique collaboration of nine vineyards celebrated the different styles and varietals produced on Calkins Lane, and the success of the event encouraged the participating vineyards to make it an annual celebration.
The Calkins Lane Block Party will take place this year on Saturday, April 5th, at Balsall Creek, one of the newest tasting rooms on the lane. Attendees can expect to taste two wines from each participating vineyard, while enjoying delicious food and engaging company. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to local charity, AHIVOY, who works to empower Oregon’s wine industry through education, cultivating skilled vineyard stewards for a brighter future and superior wine.
It isn’t just the size of the partnership that makes this collaboration so special. Over 100 acres of planted vineyards grow in marine sedimentary soils on Calkins Lane which only stretches for a mile and a half, gaining about 250ft of elevation, and exploring 180 degrees of different sun exposures. This lends the tiny pocket a unique opportunity to produce and offer an incredible variety to wine consumers, making Calkins Lane a truly top tier tasting destination in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
