The Livermore Valley Wine Community Wins a Record 211 Awards in the 2025 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

For the second year in a row, Livermore Valley’s Las Positas Vineyards wins the White Wine Sweepstakes and makes history as the first winery on record to secure back-to-back wins in the category

Livermore, CA, January 23, 2025 – The Livermore Valley Wine Community (LVWC) is thrilled to announce that its wineries were awarded a record 211 medals in the 2025 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest wine competition in North America. In a true testament to the thriving region, Las Positas Vineyards was named the White Wine Sweepstakes Winner for the second year in a row, which is the first time on record of the competition that a winery has secured back-to-back wins in this category. This year, the winery won for their 2023 Estate Reserve Albariño Livermore Valley CA. Additionally, three wines were awarded Best of Class with another 23 winning Double Gold. 

“The entire Livermore Valley wine region is honored to have our wines recognized by a leading industry competition and their distinguished panel of judges,” said Brandi Lombardi, Executive Director for the Livermore Valley Wine Community. “Bringing home a record number of wins this year is a true indication of the hard work and dedication that our winemakers bring to their craft and quality wines that they are making. We hope that this recognition only continues to draw wine lovers from the Bay Area and beyond to come visit and taste our award-winning wines.”

As one of the oldest wine regions in California, the region has a steep history of producing award-winning wines. In recent years, the LVWC has come together with reinvigorated attention on quality. Wai-Ken Wong, owner of HLW Vineyard and member of the LVWC Quality Committee, said, “We are tremendously proud of the outstanding achievements of our Livermore Valley wineries in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. These results reflect our unwavering commitment to producing exceptional wines of the highest quality. Following a historic back-to-back win Las Positas Vineyards GM and Winemaker, Brent Amos added, “The entire team at Las Positas Vineyards is thrilled to be taking home the White Wine Sweepstakes award for a second year in a row. Las Positas is dedicated to the marriage of Old World craftsmanship and New World pioneer spirit in the production of our wines. We’re proud that the 2023 Estate Reserve Albariño showed that spirit and won the hearts and tastebuds of the judges.”

The three Best of Class were awarded to:

  2. Las Positas Vineyards 2024 Livermore Valley Estate Reserve Verdelho (Category: Verdelho; Trebbianno; Petit Manseng; and Malvasia Bianca)
  3. McGrail Vineyards and Winery 2022 Livermore Valley Lucky 8 Vineyards The Weston (Category: Red Blend: Cabernet Franc leading blend)
