Malliouhana Celebrates 40 Years of Luxury with Two Exclusive Private Label Wines

Made in partnership with Tansy Wines and award-winning Sommelier Shelley Lindgren, the limited-edition Vermentino and Rosé will only be available at the resort

ANGUILLA (May 7, 2024) – This November, Malliouhana, Anguilla’s stylish resort icon, celebrates its 40th anniversary. To mark this milestone, Malliouhana teamed up with the powerhouse team behind Tansy Wines, James Beard award-winning Sommelier Shelley Lindgren and marketing guru Kitty Oestlien, to produce an exclusive private label Vermentino and Rosé. Both sustainably grown and harvested from Northern California, these varieties perfectly embody Malliouhana’s newly launched wine program, led by Lindgren and Anguilla’s first Sommelier, Albert Lake.

Malliouhana’s Vermentino and Rosé bottles are outfitted with a custom label featuring the artwork of local Anguilla artist Carmel Gumbs. Known for his signature style of photorealism, the Vermentino label is designed with a panoramic painting of Malliouhana, capturing the modern-day glamour that the five-star resort is known and loved for, while the Rosé label is decorated with a mirror image of the entrance of Malliouhana, featuring the uniquely lush landscaping that welcomes visitors with style and opulence.

“We wanted wines that reflected Malliouhana’s relaxed yet refined style,” said Logan Miller, Managing Director, Malliouhana. “Lindgren, Oestlien and the team at Tansy Wines have crafted wines that perfectly capture the vibrant and tropical character we’re known for in Anguilla. These two wines are a perfect complement to the culinary experiences at Malliouhana, available just in time for our 40th anniversary celebrations.”

Located on the Sonoma side of Carneros and named for the cooling afternoon breezes from the San Pablo Bay, Las Brisas Vineyard is a white wine oasis in the Carneros AVA near the corner of the Petaluma Gap. It allows for the leisurely pace Vermentino needs to hold its spirited acidity and dry finish. Produced from a combination of stainless steel and neutral French oak barrels, the Vermentino is 100% native fermentation, then racked, filtered and bottled. Described as natural with no additives, Malliouhana’s Vermentino highlights bright flavors of kaffir lime, citron, gooseberry, jasmine, sweet pea and ocean spray. Meant to be enjoyed as aperitivo or sipping on a warm day, the Vermentino can be appreciated at Malliouhana’s signature dining concepts, including Celeste, Leon’s and Bar Soleil.

A 2023 vintage, the Aglianico Rosé is produced with grapes from Heringer Vineyard located in Clarksburg AVA near the Delta region of Yolo County. The maritime influences of the region keep the growing season long without overripening the Aglianico, resulting in a delicate, dry Rosé. Showing its classic salmon color, this Rosé offers distinct notes of watermelon rind, river rock, and tomato leaf, with a finish of delicious ocean-breeze salinity underscored by lingering mouthwatering acidity. Heringer Vineyard’s Aglianico fruit is picked specifically for Rosé, resulting in a wine that is fresh, elegant, and light on its feet, while also showing the concentration and intensity of its historic site, much like Malliouhana. It’s fermented with native yeast in stainless steel at cool temperatures to preserve the freshness and aromatics.

“Malliouhana has been an icon of luxury and style for four decades,” said Shelley Lindgren. “We are honored to have partnered with them to create two wines that capture their pioneering spirit and timeless elegance. The Vermentino and Rosé are a tribute to Malliouhana’s lasting impact on Caribbean hospitality.”

About Tansy Wines

Tansy Wines was born in a restaurant called A16, a local San Francisco institution known for bringing southern Italian wines and food to diners. The owner, Shelley Lindgren, met Kitty Oestlien, a business executive and wine lover, and together they created a women owned winery focused on Italian varietals that are grown locally in California.

Each wine focuses on a unique vineyard, committed to sustainable and organic farming practices. The wine making offers a unique take of minimal intervention with no temperature control or additives, ensuring the wines are lively, natural, lower in alcohol and distinctly connected to the terroir. Local female botanical artists are featured on every label, highlighting wildflowers that grow healthily in and around these vineyards.
