(February 9, 2024; Los Angeles, Calif.)—Katherine Jarvis, president and founder of Los Angeles, CA-based Jarvis Communications, is pleased to announce that her firm has been selected as the U.S. public relations agency of record for Rathbone Wine Group (RWG). RWG is a leading family-owned Australian fine wine group based in Melbourne, Australia, whose portfolio of premium wineries includes three historic estates: Yering Station in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, Mount Langi Ghiran in Victoria’s Grampians region and Xanadu in Margaret River.
“These are some of the most highly regarded estate wineries in Australia. There is penchant for cool-climate terroir-driven wines in the market, and we believe there will be great interest across both trade and consumers in the wines from Yering Station, Mount Langi Ghiran and Xanadu. Consumers will discover that these wines offer the highest quality and competitive price points for wines of place. Our team is thrilled to represent them here in the U.S.,” says Jarvis.
Rathbone Wine Group was established in 1996 by wine-loving brothers Doug and Graeme Rathbone when they acquired Yering Station. Since 2008, Rathbone Wine Group has been under the leadership of Doug’s son, Darren Rathbone, CEO, who previously served as winemaker and technical director.
Yering Station is the crown jewel of the Yarra Valley. With vines first planted in 1838, Yering Station was Victoria’s first vineyard and has today emerged as one of the most respected producers of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Australia. Presently, the estate is comprised of five vineyard sites across Yarra Glen and Coldstream sub-regions, with 12 varieties planted to more than 27 clones. Spanning elevations from 150 to 1500 ft, these sites benefit from the influence of the Great Dividing Range and a diverse make up of soil profiles. The region sees significant winter rainfall followed by long, dry, cool summers. Leading the winemaking team with passion and integrity, Chief Winemaker Brendan Hawker is dedicated to crafting wines that authentically express their origin, cultivation and vintage.
Mount Langi Ghiran is an Australian pioneer in cool climate Shiraz and was acquired by the Rathbone Family in 2002. Since the late 1960s, Mount Langi Ghiran has been committed to a distinctively vibrant, spicy and elegant Shiraz afforded by a fortunate alignment of natural elements in the remote and rugged Grampians region of southeastern Australia. Cooled by prevailing winds from the Southern Ocean and located in a north-south valley shielded from warm afternoon sun, Mount Langi Ghiran’s 170 acres of estate vineyards are all own-rooted and composed of granite sands over sedimentary red clay loam, scarcely found in Australia. The unique setting results in an extended ripening season, making it one of the last vineyards harvested in all of mainland Australia. Chief Winemaker Adam Louder, who grew up in the area, takes a light touch in the cellar, using winemaking techniques learned and honed over 40 harvests in the Grampians, Margaret River, Bordeaux and Napa Valley to coax elegant and vibrant flavors and aromas from Mount Langi Ghiran’s exceptional fruit.
Xanadu in Margaret River was acquired by the Rathbone Family in 2005. Located in the secluded south-west corner of Australia, the region is surrounded on three sides by the Indian Ocean and sheltered by forests of majestic Marri, Jarrah and Karri trees. These natural surroundings allow for moderate ripening throughout the growing season, ideal for producing exemplary Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Xanadu’s estate vineyards are located within the Margaret River’s Wallcliff sub-appellation nicknamed “The Golden Triangle” for producing exceptional Chardonnay. Comprised of 160 acres, the vineyards predominantly feature unique clones of Cabernet Sauvignon (Houghton clone) and Chardonnay (Gingin clone). Senior Winemaker and Chief Viticulturalist Glenn Goodall has meticulously crafted Xanadu’s award-winning wines for over two decades. Continuously striving for excellence, Glenn adopts an intuitive approach to winemaking and holds a deep respect for the vineyards, where he and his team believe true quality begins. Techniques such as whole bunch pressing, wild fermentation, French oak and lees stirring culminate fruit forward wines where the loudest voice in the glass is the vineyard.
