The historic Champagne brand partners with the world-renowned hotel to offer an exclusive Grand Siècle experience called “The Icon Room”
Beverly Hills, California (November 9, 2023) – Today, Laurent-Perrier unveils a never-before-seen experience in partnership with The Peninsula Beverly Hills called “The Icon Room.” The completely transformed intimate private dining room on-property offers private tastings led by a Laurent-Perrier brand representative along with perfectly paired, Michelin-starred Executive Chef Ralf Schlegel curated refreshments to highlight the House’s latest releases of their prestige cuvée, Grand Siècle. The tastings will feature a glass of the Vintage 2012, followed by the highly regarded Grand Siècle Iteration No. 26, and finish with Grand Siècle Iteration No. 23 en magnum.
In addition to tastings, The Icon Room offers a sliver of the Grand Siècle jewel, Le Chateau de Louvois. Located in the Grand Cru village of Louvois, the House’s castle serves as the home of Grand Siècle. Welcomed by Lucie Pereyre de Nonancourt, fourth-generation of the family that owns Laurent-Perrier, and Edouard Cossy, Global Director of Grand Siècle, the most important wine professionals and collectors from all over the world receive a bespoke journey through the history and winemaking excellence of the House of Laurent-Perrier. This tribute to Grand Siècle offers all guests of The Peninsula Beverly Hills, and non-guests alike, a one-of-a-kind experience in the United States.
“We’re honored to share this opportunity to showcase our strong partnership with The Peninsula Beverly Hills, a property that continues to be at the forefront of the hospitality space known for its pure opulence and top tier accommodations,” says Michelle DeFeo, President of Laurent-Perrier U.S. “We are thrilled for existing and new Laurent-Perrier enthusiasts to take part in The Icon Room and learn about the rich story of Grand Siècle on a much deeper level.”
Vintage in Champagne is usually synonymous with excellence for prestige cuvées. Contrarily, Laurent-Perrier believes that only the art of assemblage offers what nature can never provide – the perfect year. When Bernard de Nonancourt inherited the House from his mother in 1948 he held the ambition to position Laurent-Perrier at the highest level by creating a unique “Grande Cuvée.” By observing nature, it became apparent that a vintage, even when exceptional, was not able to reach the perfection he sought. In Champagne each vintage is different, revealing various characteristics and styles. Through the art of blending, Bernard de Nonancourt realized that he could bring together these differing attributes and use their complementarity in order to create the perfection he dreamt of. Grand Siècle was founded upon this unique idea in 1959: to recreate the perfect year, the one that mature, on its own, could never provide.
The expression of the perfect year for a great champagne is one with long ageing potential and over time develops depth, intensity, and aromatic complexity while still remaining fresh and vibrant. To achieve this, Grand Siècle’s assemblage is based on the three following principles:
- Three exceptional years, complementary in character are chosen from among the rare Laurent-Perrier vintages.
- A majority of chardonnay complemented by pinot noir sourced exclusively from a minimum of 11 Grand Crus within the 319 Crus of the Champagne region.
- A minimum of 10 years ageing on lees in Laurent-Perrier’s cellars for bottles and longer for magnums.
Due to its difference in conception, it took a long time for Grand Siècle to be considered as a one of the very best champagnes in the world. After many decades, Grand Siècle has finally obtained recognition from the most well-known wine critics and is nowadays a benchmark reference within premium champagnes as “it takes time to become an icon.” Laurent-Perrier is very proud that Mr. Morgan Freeman has agreed to become the face of Grand Siècle, its most exclusive Champagne Cuvée.
“We, Laurent-Perrier, are different from our peers, or perceived as such. Our pursuit of excellence, because of our difference, has taken us more time, more effort, great perseverance, and a strong belief in our vision to become recognized for what we do. It does takes time to become an icon: for us, nobody but Morgan Freeman could better embody that line and become the face of Grand Siècle.” Stéphane Dalyac, Champagne Laurent-Perrier President and CEO.
