Grupo Agrovin Launches EU Wine Labeling Guide, a Guide Designed to Help Wineries in the Face of Regulatory Changes

The La Mancha-based company, which works for and with wineries around the world, has prepared this document with the aim of advising them on the changes that will take place in the wine sector as of December 8th.

The EU Wine Labeling guide launched by Grupo Agrovin, a pioneering guide in the sector, explains the changes in the regulations in a simple way, resolves doubts and provides practical information and curiosities about these new requirements.

As of that date, all wines marketed in the EU must compulsorily include four key aspects on their labels: energy value, intolerances or allergies, nutritional declaration and list of ingredients. In view of the changes that this new regulation implies for wineries, Grupo Agrovin is launching a complete guide that includes all these modifications with the aim of advising and helping them in this transition.

What are the contents and indications of this “ EU Wine Labeling guide “?

The first point addressed in this document prepared by the La Mancha company, a pioneer in the sector, is the objective of this new Community measure. Thus, it explains that “with this new regulation, on the one hand, the consumer will be able, in a simple and easy way, to have access to the list of additives and the nutritional value; and on the other hand, the producer will not have to overload his bottle and spoil the visual appearance of a package with an unattractive amount of information”.

The EU Wine Labeling guide also includes a complete definition of aspects that wineries should be clear about, such as what is meant by an ingredient or the difference between an additive -which must be labeled- or an adjuvant, as well as what kind of such additives are subject to labeling, in addition to a series of tips on how this process should be carried out. “Whether on the digital label or on the physical label, additives should be specifically indicated in the list of ingredients. We recommend putting the category of the additive first, followed by the name of the additive in brackets “()”. It should be added that if the additive is an allergen, it should be indicated in bold”.

This guide to help wineries launched by Grupo Agrovin addresses issues such as the calculation of the energy value and solves doubts that wineries may have, such as what information should appear on the physical label and what can be provided electronically or what are the advantages of using QR codes to display information on wine ingredients. In this regard, the document explains that “the most significant ones are: they can be automatically translated into the appropriate language, depending on where the user scans it; you can modify the labels in real time, correcting any problems or errors you discover after printing them, and you can avoid major changes to your physical labels”.

This help manual also includes some practical information, such as the minimum size of the QR, the minimum font size of the nutritional information on the QR, where the regulatory information must be placed or the languages in which the information must be included, as well as some curiosities, such as the possibility of placing a QR code in sticker format.
