September 5th – It is with deep sadness that the Nadalié family announces the passing of Jacqueline Nadalié on August 31st in Ludon, France. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jean-Jacques Nadalié, her children Christine, Stephane, Guillaume, Vincent, their spouses, and 13 grandchildren.
Tonnellerie Nadalié was founded in France in 1902, and after expansions abroad Jean-Jacques wanted to bring the art of traditional French barrel-making to the US. So, in 1980 the couple moved their family of six to the Napa Valley to establish Nadalié USA, the first French Cooperage of America. With four kids in tow ranging in age from 15 to 7 (and Jean-Jacques the only one speaking English at the time), this was no easy undertaking. However, Jacqueline loved the valley and its people and she approached this new adventure with her typical enthusiasm and tenacity. Eventually the Nadalié’s returned to France but kept the family home in St. Helena and continued to enjoy spending time together and with friends during frequent trips back to the US.
“My parents traveled the world together and Jacqueline never met a stranger, making new acquaintances and friends over the years. But what she loved more than anything was spending time with her family. She had her youngest grandsons over every Wednesday and kept a standing weekly date with her granddaughter’s”, says Vincent Nadalié. “Our mother was a matriarch in the true sense of the word, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.”
