Ft. Lauderdale, FL – (June 8, 2023) – THE Rosé Competition 2023, is excited to announce the results of our tenth annual competition, held at the Ft. Lauderdale Woman’s Club, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Saturday, May 12th. Under the auspices of the American Fine Wine Competition, the judges selected 2022 JOLO Pink from JOLO Winery & Vineyards based in Pilot Mountain, North Carolina ($32). This delightfully crisp, balanced, dry, Rosé captivated the judges. Congratulations JOLO! Three Best of Show Dry Rosé runners up included: 2022 Rosé of Grenache, Clif Family Winery of Napa Valley, CA ($30), Breaux Vineyards, 2022 Cellar Selections, from Purcelville, Virginia ($30); and Effingham Manor 2021 Rosé from Nokesville, Virginia ($34).
The Best of Show in the Sparkling Rosé category unsurprisingly went to Domaine Carneros by Taittinger, Brut Rose, 2019, from Carneros, CA ($45). This same wine won last year’s competition as well. Domaine Carneros’ excellent Brut Rosé is a definite crowd pleaser, sip after sip. The runner up was also produced by Domaine Carneros, the NV Cuvee de la Pompadour ($45).
Congratulations to the exceptional Rosé wines in our competition and of course, to all the winners.
Long time judge Daisy Penzo said, “I thoroughly enjoyed coming back and lending my palate to judge the 2023 Rosé Competition in Fort Lauderdale. This year did not disappoint as the winner came from a non-traditional wine making region using unique varietals. It goes to show the true versatility of the category and how every sip of rosé wine is an adventure of discovery!”
Judge Sunny Fraser remarked, “When a wine from North Carolina is the Best in Show, it is reminiscent of a Judgment of Paris moment. There are no preconceived ideas in a blind tasting; you’re just judging what’s in the glass.”
THE Rosé Competition 2023 received a total of 160 entries. Our esteemed wine judges awarded 23 Double Gold Medals, 34 Gold Medals and 66 Silver Medals. Congratulations go out to all the winners and participating wineries.
This year, the event “Fifty Shades of Pink” followed THE Rosé Competition 2023. The event was held on May 13th at the historic Ft. Lauderdale Woman’s Club.
