Sensors included in the bottle cases send real-time data on location and wine condition
(February 9, 2023 – Rioja Alta, Spain) – La Rioja Alta, S.A. recently implemented a new technology that will ensure the highest levels of quality are observed as wine is stored and shipped to its customers and directly addresses the two biggest logistical issues affecting the quality of wine: transportation and storage.
This new technology consists of a series of sensors installed in cases and boxes, enabling the Quality Department at La Rioja Alta, S.A. to geo track and analyze data about wine temperature, humidity, light, and vibrations in real time. These sensors collect and transmit data to the company’s system at regular intervals. This real-time monitoring ensures a high level of quality is maintained from storage to shipment and delivery to customers in more than 80 countries. It also helps provide valuable data used to improve upon La Rioja Alta, S.A.’s production and logistics operations.
This technological advance is an extension of the award-winning and innovative 360° artificial vision system first introduced into La Rioja Alta, S.A.’s production line in late 2020. La Rioja Alta, S.A. managing director Angel Barrasa explained that these research and development projects “reinforce us on our path to Industry 4.0, and show our determined commitment to new technologies and innovation.”
