V. Sattui Winery awarded “Best Of Wine Tourism” for 2023 by Great Wine Capitals – Global Network | A World of Excellence.
November 16th – The world of wine met in Mendoza, Argentina for one week at the end of November 2022 for the Great Wine Capitals International Conference. This annual conference brings together representatives from 11 different wine capitals from around the world to further enhance the world of wine, share ideas, and exchange knowledge.
Tom Davies, President of V. Sattui Winery and Board Chair of Visit Napa Valley, was part of a four-person delegation representing the Napa Valley and its 500+ wineries, hotels, inns, restaurants, and transportation companies. “It was a tremendous honor to be selected as one of the delegates to represent the Napa Valley, the only wine region in North America recognized by the Great Wine Capitals,” says Tom Davies. Other wine regions included Bordeaux, France, Adelaide, South Australia, Rioja, Spain, Cape Town, South Africa, Lausanne, Switzerland, Rheinhessen, Germany, Porto, Portugal, Casablanca, Chile, Verona, Italy, and Mendoza, Argentina.
As part of the international program, the conference honors and celebrates the Best Of Wine Tourism, with each region selecting a winery that best represents innovation and excellence in wine tourism experiences. For 2023, V. Sattui Winery was selected as the regional winner for Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences, along with 10 top wineries around the world that included Chateau La Tour Blanche in Bordeaux, Monte Del Fra, Italy, and Bodegas Javier San Pedro Ortega. “I am so proud of our winery team being selected as the best of wine tourism experiences for all of the Napa Valley, along with being included with the best of the major wine regions from around the world!” exclaims, Tom Davies.
The host wine capital, Mendoza, rolled out the red carpet for the attendees, with visits to famous and innovative wine estates, banquets featuring the best of Argentinean beef, gaucho dancing, and a gala dinner to announce the best of the region awards. These events were only exceeded by the hospitality and graciousness of the people of Mendoza
Davies further adds, “I learned a lot during this conference. We are facing many of the same challenges, including climate change and drought, and to be able to share what works, and wasn’t doesn’t work is an invaluable tool as we grow our industry in a sustainable way while promoting a problem-solving orientation and inclusive awareness.”
The 2023 Great Wine Capitals Conference will be held in Laussane, Switzerland.

V. Sattui Director of Winemaking, Brooks Painter, has been recognized as “Winemaker of the Year” in 2015 by the American Fine Wine Competition. He was previously awarded “Winemaker of the Year” at the San Francisco International Wine Competition in June of 2013. The winery was named “Winery of the Year” at the 2019 Sommelier Challenge and now twice in 2020 at the Monterey Wine Competition and San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge.
V. Sattui wines are sustainably farmed and sourced mostly from their own vineyard estates, yielding a wide range of terroir and varietals that produce a long portfolio of award-winning wines. V. Sattui wines are sold exclusively from the winery, direct to consumer. V.
