Winebid Updates and Relaunches Its “Buy Now” Category to Offer Broader Selection of Collectible and Rare Wines

September  19th – (Napa, CA) As the largest and longest-standing global online auction for fine, rare, collectible, investable, and unique wines, WineBid has been known for its format of bid-through-the-week and win-on-Sunday night (US) auctions. Responding to requests from buyers, investors, traders, and other community members seeking more immediate access to these highly collectible wines, WineBid is upgrading and broadening its longstanding “Buy Now” category of wines to include the same collectible and rare wines normally reserved for its weekly auctions. The Buy Now section will now provide instant retail purchase of top Burgundy, First Growth Bordeaux, California Cult Cabernets, and other highly sought-after bottlings for those seeking more timely and convenient access to these top wines.

The augmented Buy Now category of wines launched on September 18, at the same time as the regular weekly WineBid auction, which continues with no changes. The aim of the update is to provide convenience to buyers and a new more immediate avenue for sellers to sell their collections.

IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO AUCTION-QUALITY WINES

“Tens of thousands of wine collectors visit our auction weekly, and many have expressed the desire for easier and more immediate access to a more robust collection of rare and vintage wines in our Buy Now category,” said Russ Mann, WineBid CEO.   “Many buyers don’t want to wait until Sunday or have to compete in an auction for wines they know they want-—they want their bid to win immediately, and have the ability to pick up or ship their wines the next day.  It’s those requests that led to the decision to bring more of the world’s most collectible wines to the fixed-price, instant win, retail format at WineBid.”

WineBid has traditionally used its Buy Now section to offer many interesting and even hard-to-find bottlings for immediate purchase. But these wines have generally fallen outside the category of “collectible” and were generally more value-oriented than wines commonly committed to its weekly auctions. While such wines will still occasionally be added to the Buy Now section of the auctioneer’s platform, they will represent a much smaller percentage of the Buy Now collection.

Buy Now purchases are instant purchases at a fixed price. There is no waiting for auctions to close on Sunday night. Shipment of Buy Now wines can be arranged immediately upon payment. Each wine sold under the Buy Now option is given the same rigorous inspection and authentication that auction wines receive. Additionally, all Buy Now wines are offered with information on condition, provenance, and notations of any professional reviews. Rather than clicking a “bid” button accompanying each auction wine, buyers will use the “add to cart” button and pay the price listed plus any relevant taxes. Wines available in the Buy Now section will constantly change as new collections are procured and put on offer.
