E. & J. Gallo Winery’s Keith Striegler Confirmed as ASEV Board President for 2022-2023

DAVIS, Calif., July 13, 2022…R. Keith Striegler, grower outreach specialist at E. & J. Gallo Winery, has been confirmed as the 2022-2023 president of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture (ASEV). As of July 1, he will be succeeding Tom Collins of Washington State University.

“There’s nothing better than combining my love for science, the grape industry and helping people achieve success in our field. I believe ASEV is the organization that brings all of this together and I am honored to be part of this impressive group of board members and wonderful staff who are propelling us forward,” says Striegler.

Prior to joining E. & J. Gallo Winery, Striegler worked as an outreach coordinator for the National Clean Plant Network and in various administrative, research, and extension positions at the University of Missouri, Missouri State University, University of Arkansas, and Fresno State University.

Raised on a family farm near Fayetteville, Arkansas, Striegler has been a member of ASEV since 1980 and has participated in numerous committees, including recently co-chairing the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium Program Development Committee in 2018-2020. He is also a board member of the National Grape Research Alliance. His other professional society memberships include the American Society for Horticultural Sciences, American Pomological Society, International Society for Horticultural Science and Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Horticultural Food Science from the University of Arkansas and his doctorate in Horticulture from Michigan State University.

In addition to Keith Striegler, the board’s Executive Committee for 2022-2023 includes: Michelle Moyer, viticulture extension specialist and associate professor at the Department of Horticulture, Washington State University, Prosser, first vice president; Anita Oberholster, associate cooperative extension specialist in Enology at University of California, Davis, second vice-president; and James Osborne, associate professor at Oregon State University, Corvallis, who will serve as secretary-treasurer. Continuing with their board positions are Markus Keller, Chateau Ste. Michelle distinguished professor in viticulture at the Department of Horticulture, Washington State University, Prosser, as the ASEV science editor, and James Harbertson, associate professor of enology at the Wine Science Center, Washington State University, Tri-Cities, as the technical program director. Joining this term, ASEV director Karen Block, director of industry relations at the Viticulture and Enology Department, University of California, Davis. Also returning as a director for a second term is Anna Katharine Mansfield, associate professor at Cornell University, New York. Formed in 1950 as a professional society dedicated to the interests of enologists, viticulturists and others in the fields of wine and grape research and production, ASEVs membership of approximately 1,600 includes professionals from wineries, vineyards, and academic institutions and organizations from around the world. In addition to publishing the American Journal of Enology and Viticulture (AJEV) and the Catalyst: Discovery into Practice, the Society also hosts its National Conference, which will be the 74th ASEV National Conference scheduled for June 26-29, 2023, at the Napa Valley Marriott in Napa, California.
