Baker-Briggs brings rare and emerging European winemakers and top producers to U.S. collectors and wine consumers with launch of Thatcher’s Wine
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (April 6, 2022) — Thatcher Baker-Briggs of Thatcher’s Wine Consulting announces his expansion into retail today with the launch of his new brand, Thatcher’s Wine. Thatcher’s Wine is an online bottle shop and importer featuring wines from some of the world’s most dynamic domaines and emerging winemakers. From exceptional everyday bottles to rarified finds, Thatcher’s Wine highly curated cellar focuses on honest expressions of climate and terroir from across Europe.
Following months spent in regions across France and Italy, Thatcher is pleased to bring small, rare and extremely high-quality producers to consumers in the United States with nationwide shipping. In addition to Thatcher’s Wine online bottle shop, Thatcher’s Wine Consulting will continue to procure the rarest vintages and bottles for an international clientele list of venture capitalists, tech founders, and NBA athletes in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Baker-Briggs shared that “with so many exciting producers across Europe, it’s an important time to be able to showcase these wines on a website with the same attention to detail as the winemakers put into the wines they produce. With our ever-expanding import portfolio and a surge in online wine purchasing, we are excited to help push the industry forward.”
At thirty years old, Baker-Briggs is not only a modern-day trailblazer for minorities and millennials in the wine industry, but Thatcher’s Wine also intentionally works with both young producers who represent a new generation of winemaking, as well as a young generation of wine consumers.
“With a massive influx of young buyers, it was an important step for us to implement and continue to build technology into our platform to keep up with the times and evolve. Transparency at checkout, payment via Crypto, smart filters, and searching or developing automations are all key aspects in moving the industry forward and one we hope to see more companies working on,” says Baker-Briggs. “No longer is it okay for the “leaders” in the industry to showcase these incredible bottles on a non-functional site. The winemakers don’t sell wine in a bottle with only half a cork in it and backward label. So we can’t sell the wine like that either.”
The launch of Thatcher’s Wine also features a complete rebrand, featuring an aesthetic that reflects the class and intentionality that Baker-Briggs and his team brings to their e-commerce selection and private consultations.
“Making a wine purchase isn’t just a transactional experience, and we feel strongly about providing the same level of service as we’ve provided during our many years working in Michelin-starred restaurants,” shares Baker-Briggs. “We spent months developing the brand and website with Oyster Sunday who shares our same hospitality-driven focus.”

About Thatcher Baker-Briggs
Thatcher brings 16 years of experience in Michelin-starred hospitality to his ongoing discovery and curation of world-class wines. Beginning his career in the kitchens of West in Vancouver and COI in San Francisco, he leveraged his early appreciation of ingredients and nuanced flavor profiles to pass the Court of Master Sommeliers Certified Sommelier exam at just 22 years old. From there, Thatcher joined the team at Saison in San Francisco, where he began to hone his open-minded approach to the modern world of wine. Several years later, he seized the opportunity to move to Tokyo and work at Takazawa, a World’s 50 Best Restaurant where he earned the title of Head Sommelier and a Wine Spectator’s Best of Excellence Award for the restaurant.
In 2018, Thatcher returned to Saison to become the restaurant’s Director of Service & Beverage, during which time he was asked to consult on a number of private wine collections. In the months that followed, he became a sought-after resource for clients across the U.S., Europe and Asia, formally launching Thatcher’s Wine Consulting in April of 2019. Thatcher’s Wine is a natural extension of this consulting practice, allowing him to bring sought-after bottles to a wider audience.
