Nuits-Saint-Georges, March 20, 2022 – The 61st Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Wine Auction, held this Sunday, March 20, 2022, took place in a convivial and enthusiastic atmosphere. The result of the sale of the estate’s 2021 harvest was 29.8% up on last year, at 2,486,000€, representing a strong increase compared to the 2021 edition, which itself had achieved record breaking levels. An exceptional result for this typically Burgundian vintage! The charity Pièce enabled some 43,585€ to be raised for the charity APF France Handicap, represented by the French singer Elodie Frégé.

A STRONG INCREASE IN RESULTS

Traditionally held at Château du Clos de Vougeot, the 61st Hospices de Nuits Charity Wine auction took place on March 20, 2022, presided over by Auctioneer Hugues Cortot and Wine Expert Aymeric de Clouet. The 2021 vintage allowed 109 Pièces to be put up for auction, across 18 different cuvees, of which only one was white. The result of the sale of the estate’s 2021 vintage amounted to 2,486,000€, an increase of 29.8% on the previous year (when 114 Pièces were presented). The average price for a Pièce of red wine was 22,481.50€ compared to 16,687.50€ in 2021, an increase of 34,7% compared to the 60th edition.

The cuvée Georges Faiveley, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Saint-Georges, registered the greatest increase in average price for the red wines. This Pièce went under the hammer for 30,500€ in 2021, compared to 51,000€ this year… an increase of 67.2%.

Notable also is the record-breaking price attained for the only Pièce of white wine in the catalogue. The Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru ‘Les Terres Blanches’ Cuvée Pierre de Pême went for 58,000€ compared to 27,000€ the previous year (average price of the two Pièces sold in 2021).

AN EVER INCREASING ENTHUSIASM

There was much enthusiasm for the 2021 vintage at the Hospices de Nuits, and the increase in the number of buyers continued this year, testifying to the ever-growing interest for these wines.

A UNIQUE CHARITY PIECE

The Charity Pièce, a blend of the estate’s nine Nuits-Saint-Georges Premiers Crus, sold by subscription, enabled 43,585€ to be raised for the benefit of APF France Handicap, the principal organization in France to defend the rights of the disabled and alleviate the difficulties for those with disabilities. This sum is destined to provide support for the disabled in accessing new technology and the digital world via the “Digital Community and Inclusion” project.

Elodie Frégé (a famous French singer) , patron of the charity, was “delighted to be able to support APF France Handicap which promotes the key values of solidarity, equality and humanism” via an event organized in the heart of her native Burgundy. For the occasion, she generously offered a musical interlude, three quarters of the way through the auction, by a rendition of a world-famous song “La Javanaise”, thus bringing together all the nationalities present.
