February 7th – Torgiano – From Umbria, the “green heart of Italy” and birthplace of Saint Valentine, Lungarotti suggests celebrating the day that commemorates love with Brut Millesimato – Vino Spumante Metodo Classico 2017, from Chardonnay and Pinot Nero grapes. Pinot Nero was introduced to Umbria in the first half of the 1970’s by Giorgio Lungarotti who in the post-war period transformed the family’s farm into a viticultural and winemaking company. He personally chose a selection of the varietal that could be suitable for producing spumante as he intended to produce his own “metodo classico” sparkling wine in Torgiano and firmly believed that the territory’s pedoclimatic characteristics could produce grapes with suitable acidity.
Golden, clear and brilliant, with a very fine and long-lasting perlage, Lungarotti Brut Millesimato has an intense and enveloping bouquet with hints of almond, hazelnut and a light touch of bread crust. Its flavour is dry and full, fruity and with good structure; the finish has a citrusy touch with fresh and clean acidity. A perfect bubbly for toasting to Love.
Lungarotti is a historic Umbrian winery founded in Torgiano by Giorgio Lungarotti and now headed by his daughters Chiara and Teresa, assisted by their mother Maria Grazia and Giorgio’s grandchildren Francesco and Gemma. Today it totals 250 hectares of vineyards situated in the Torgiano Estate (230 ha, VIVA certification since 2018) and the one in Montefalco (20 ha, organically cultivated since 2010). The viticulture practised at both wineries is based on sustainability and biodiversity with a focus on highlighting native varietals interspersed with international varietals. Between the two sites, there are 29 different labels, among which is Rubesco Riserva Vigna Monticchio – Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG, one of the best Italian reds, and Rubesco – Rosso di Torgiano DOC, a profound expression of Umbria.
