Madera Wine Trail winery proudly introduces sparkling wine varietals with a trio of medals from the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
MADERA, CA (FEBRUARY 3, 2022) — San Joaquin Winery is thrilled to announce awards from the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the “largest competition of American wines.”
The Moody Press Cellars Sparkling Moscato ($22/bottle) earned a gold medal, and the Moody Press Cellars Brut Blanc de Blanc ($25/bottle) and Brut Rosé ($25/bottle) both earned silver medals.
“Our winemaker, Miguel Sanchez, took a bold new step in 2021, producing the very first vintages of sparkling wine at our winery,” said Erica Magarian, San Joaquin Winery Tasting Room Manager. “The response from our patrons has been incredible, and to win a gold medal and two silver medals from such a prestigious competition was the icing on the cake for us. Our wine club members and guests have been calling non-stop to taste our Moody Press Cellars Sparkling Moscato. It is a beautifully balanced representation of grapes from the Russian River Valley.”
Winery owners, Steve and Cindy Schafer say, “We are very excited about these awards and encourage guests to stop by the tasting room to try these amazing, award-winning, sparkling wines”.
San Joaquin Winery is open for wine tasting Monday – Friday from 1 pm – 5 pm, Saturdays from 11 am – 4 pm, and Sundays from 12 pm – 4 pm. It is recommended tasters call before visiting to ensure availability.
ABOUT SAN JOAQUIN WINERY
Steve Schafer, along with his wife Cindy Schafer, founded San Joaquin Wine Company in 2005 as the fulfillment of a personal passion. Growing up in a family farm business and having the experience of growing 12 varietals of wine grapes along with almonds for over 40 years, Steve wanted to see his grapes go full circle! This sparked the idea to start a winery right here in their backyard in the heart of Madera County. Over the course of four years, Steve purchased the winery equipment necessary to take his grapes to bottle. Wine production started in 2009 with 4 varietals in the “Moody Press Cellars” label and has grown to 18 different varietals and 9 labels. SJWC now sells 30,000 cases, which are primarily inter-state wholesale sales, and exports to Japan, China, Canada, Denmark, and Vietnam. Retail sales contribute to the business through their on-site tasting room and event venue, as well as through local restaurants and stores.
