Preview of L’Altra Toscana 2022

The year is beginning with something new: the début of ”L’Altra Toscana” for wine producers, where the spotlights will be turned towards an unusual and yet to be discovered oenological proposal

Ten consortiums will end the Preview week on March 25th, in the Museum Complex of Santa Maria Novella, to discover a Tuscany that is still arousing everyone’s curiosity

Florence, January 2022 — Carmignano, Chianti Rufina, Colline Lucchesi, Cortona, Maremma Toscana, Montecucco, Orcia, Terre di Casole, Terre di Pisa, Valdarno di Sopra: these are ten Consortiums that represent the thirteen Denominations of L’Altra Toscana ready to present the new vintages during the traditional week of the Anteprime Toscane, that will be held from March 19th to 25th. Some are small and unknown, others have a strong bond with Tuscany’s oenological tradition that is constantly being reinterpreted, others are definitely “unexpected”, and they will all be presented together on March 25th in Florence with a wine tasting experience and a full Master class program. The location is extremely evocative, and is open to the public exceptionally, to present these “oenological jewels”: the Refectory and the Atrium of the Museum Complex of Santa Maria Novella, one of the most spectacular locations in the world for the richness of the works of Art it houses. Can there be a better place to glorify the bond between wine, culture and territory? With works by Giotto, Brunelleschi, Masaccio, who add their touch and meaning to each glass?

Today – after almost two years of limitations – we have the desire to experiment and discover new and unexplored trends. This Tuscany, that is part of the incredible oenological mosaic of one of the symbolic Italian wine regions, can fulfil all these desires. Many different companies, small and large, let themselves be guided by a tailored approach in this region, with the focus on sustainability in the vines and the cellars.

“I have always been sure that there is strength in numbers, and this year we want to glorify our work by presenting the value of biodiversity in a new temporal destination in the calendar of the Anteprime, and most of all in an incredible location. L’Altra Toscana is a kaleidoscope of taste and terroir, of areas that have been dedicated to wine growing and production for centuries, ranging from the sea to the Tuscan hills, that we know will arouse curiosity and please the passionate enthusiasts, especially those who are looking for something new”, says Francesco Mazzei who leads the Associazione L’Altra Toscana, and is the president of the Wine Protection Consortium of Tuscan Maremma. “

Our goal is to tell people about the even higher levels of quality of the Wines from Tuscany that enrich this region’s oenological offer. The Florentine event has always hosted these Consortiums, and today they appear even closer, to give true value to the protected Denominations, where vines have been cultivated with art for centuries. Gabriele Gorelli – first Italian Master of Wine – will be guiding the wine tasting. A specific choice that highlights the will to speak a new language, that goes beyond the strict limits of the organoleptic description, and promotes the value of a compelling storytelling to shed light on the unique features and differences of Tuscan oenology.

It will be possible to taste the wine from the thirteen DOP regions presented by the participating Consortiums from 9am to 6pm – in total safety and compliance with current regulations and with a dedicated sommelier. The Master class “L’Altro Sangiovese. Blind tasting dei Cru di una Toscana da scoprire” (The Other Sangiovese. Blind tasting of the Crus of a Tuscany yet to be discovered) will be offered from 10am to 11am; and from 12 noon to 1pm there will be “Il valore del tempo. Le longevità che non ti aspetti”, (The value in time, an unexpected longevity) and at 2pm there will be a guided wine tasting, that will last for approximately one hour, “Il coraggio di cambiare. Bio, sostenibilità e altri modi di fare vino”. (The courage to change. Bio, sustainability and other ways to make wine).
