November 24th – Napa, CA – Mary Maher has been named Director of Company Culture and Strategic Development at Silverado Farming Company, where, for twenty years, founder Pete Richmond and his team have provided vineyard management to Napa Valley’s best estate wineries. “In this newly created role, Mary will be working with our employees on best practices to deliver a high level of service to our customers and help develop the skills needed to push our vineyards to extraordinary levels,” Richmond says. He continues, “Mary will also be on the lookout for team members who show potential and need encouragement to advance in our organization. She will become very involved in how we interact with our community and will also be leading an employee group who will decide where our One Percent donations are given each year.”
Previously, Maher was vineyard manager for Bill Harlan, from 2001 onward, where she oversaw farming and vineyard development for the Harlan and Promontory estates, supervising a team of fifty. In 2014, Maher was selected as the recipient of the esteemed Napa Valley Grower of the Year award by the Napa Valley Grapegrowers for her broad contributions to Napa Valley agriculture and the community. Her storied career is rooted in mentorship, innovation, quality, and sustainability. Maher was an early leader in the Napa Valley in exploring organic farming practices. Maher served on the Napa County Pest and Disease District Board, Napa Valley Grapegrowers Board, the Carneros Quality Alliance and the Napa Valley Vineyard Technical Group. Cumulatively, Maher has farmed vineyards for over 30 years, and credits Anne Moller-Racke and Ann Kraemer as having opened doors for her in the field of viticulture.
Raised in a small farming town near Sacramento, California, Maher’s mother was an avid gardener who passed along to Mary a profound appreciation and reverence for the natural world. Today, when she is not in the vineyard, Maher finds solace hiking and biking through the valley with her husband, Kelly and their dogs.
