The DBIWC competition was founded in 1982 by one of the nation’s most respected wine journalists, Dan Berger. It was formerly called the Riverside International.

The competition is coordinated by Debra del Fiorentino using an expert crew of back-room professionals. It will be staged at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds using Sonoma County Health Dept. protocols.

Rules are based on research done in the 1970s by Prof. Maynard Amerine at UC Davis. Judges evaluate with an eye to regional identity, using appellations to benefit both wineries and consumers.
