NAPA, CA (October 14, 2021) – The Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) and Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation (FWF) announce ROOTSTOCK 2021, to be held on November 10-12 at the Yountville Community Center in Yountville, CA. ROOTSTOCK promises educational tracks in English and Spanish: a leadership and management conference in Spanish, and provocative panel discussions and continuing education sessions in English.
The ROOTSTOCK Spanish program begins with the Leadership and Management Conference on November 10 and 11. Employers can register vineyard teams from entry level to upper management. Topics range from managing pest and disease in the vineyard and farming adaptations for climate change, to navigating the American retirement system and the secret to advancing your career. All courses at the conference are complimentary for Napa Valley farmworkers.
The English ROOTSTOCK seminars on November 12 include:
- Leaders in sustainable grape growing discussing best practices on vineyard irrigation with a focus on water conservation. Hear directly from a panel of growers on their experiences and lessons learned in the 2021 drought and what all growers should be considering for the future.
- Experts from ETS Labs share recent research and innovative analytical tools that offer valuable insights about effects of wildfire, wildfire smoke benchmarking, tannins management in the vineyard during a drought year, and a look at 2021 vintage trends.
- Continuing Education Seminars

- Andre Napolitano, Agricultural/Weights and Measures Inspector, shares information about the Agricultural Commissioner’s current GWSS programs
- John Cooledge, Deputy Agricultural Commissioner, will review recent updates on requirements for pesticide handlers
- Hear the results of recent research by USDA-ARS Research Plant Pathologist, Dr. Kendra Baumgartner on Phomopsis cane & leaf spot, including laboratory diagnostics, what we know about the infection cycle and management options for growers
- The day will conclude with the ROOTSTOCK Happy Hour, a pop-up party to catch up with friends and colleagues post-harvest.
