BarrelWise Technologies Launches in California Following Success at Top Canadian Wineries

The smart Barrel Management System is now available to producers in the Napa and Sonoma wine regions.

Wednesday – January 13, 2021, Vancouver, BC: BarrelWise Technologies Ltd. has announced the launch of its novel wine barrel management system in California, starting with the Napa and Sonoma winemaking regions. The company continues to serve wineries on its home turf in British Columbia. “We are very excited to meet the industry’s growing demand for process improvements and data-driven insights with the BarrelWise system” said Jason Sparrow, CEO of BarrelWise Technologies. With local presence established in Santa Rosa, CA., the company has positioned itself to serve the largest winemaking market in North America where product quality, complexity, and stylistic flair are often key differentiators for producers.

“The BarrelWise system, which we have been testing since early 2020, delivers precision and control to regular barrel management tasks, and I am particularly excited by the capability to maintain a more reductive barrel environment without compromising the health of the wines.” Said Alexandra Haselich, winemaker at Mission Hill Family Estates. “Our group is in the process of adopting BarrelWise in our main winery’s cellar, as well as at another facility in British Columbia.”

The first of a kind BarrelWise Barrel Management System enables wine barrel sampling, topping, and the sulfite additions to be done without removing the bung, which can save over 50% of time currently spent on routine barrel work. The system automatically tracks executed barrel tasks and volumes of topping wine added, with key data stored and analysed to improve production decision-making. BarrelWise is used by some of the top Canadian wine producers including Mission Hill Family Estate Winery and Sandhill Wines (Andrew Peller Ltd.). Additionally, the company is already working with two Treasury Wine Estates wineries in the Napa Valley.

The BarrelWise system will be showcased at the 2021 Unified Wine and Grape Symposium, which will be held virtually due to the COVID restrictions on January 26th-29th. Trade show visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the product’s capabilities in live video demonstrations hosted by the company.
