New Mexicans Being Asked to Take the $5 Wine Challenge

“$5 Wine Stimulus Funds” to Support New Mexico Wineries

Viva Vino LogoALBUQUERQUE—New Mexico Wine and the New Mexico Department of Agriculture are partnering to create the New Mexico $5 Wine Challenge to help benefit NM wineries and vineyards during COVID 19. Launching on May 1st, New Mexico Wine will begin distributing $5 “Wine Stimulus Funds” in the form of a coupon that wine lovers can apply to their purchase at a local winery.

This new program builds upon New Mexico Department of Agriculture’s $5 Dollar Challenge, which encourages New Mexicans to spend an extra $5 on locally grown food and products. New Mexico Wine took the promotion to the next level by creating its Wine Stimulus program that digitally puts $5 in the hands of eager wine buyers. The goal of the project is to drive an additional 3,000 transactions at local wineries in the month of May, with a particular focus on e-commerce during Shelter at Home.

HOW IT WORKS:

There are three easy ways to participate in the New Mexico $5 Wine Challenge each with their own little reward. It all starts by visiting www.nmwine.com

  1. The first 1,000 people who sign up for our Viva Vino e-newsletter will receive an email with $5 in Wine Stimulus Funds that can be applied towards the purchase of wine at any of our participating New Mexico wineries.
  2. Purchase any 2020 Wine Pass for just $20 and we will send you a $5 discount code for your next wine purchase. The 2020 Wine Pass is a ticket that is valid for any single New Mexico Wine festival anywhere in New Mexico in 2020.
  3. Purchase our VIVAVINO swag, like t-shirts, button downs, polos or merchandise totaling $20 or more and we will email you a $5 discount code.

5$ Wine Challenge Poster“The NM wine industry is so grateful to our local community for supporting us through this challenging time. In response to COVID 19 and Shelter in Place orders nationwide, wine consumers have managed to increase online wine sales by 400%,” said Christopher Goblet, Executive Director at New Mexico Wine. “New Mexico wineries have adapted their business and shifted employees to pack and ship online orders. In the face of declining tasting room sales, Direct to Consumer online sales have been a lifeline for many of our local wineries.”

The “Wine Stimulus funds” discount is valid May 1st – 15th and can be used online, over the phone on in person at the tasting rooms across the state of New Mexico. The timing for this promotion is great, since so many wineries have spring releases and new wines to offer. Consumers will have lots of amazing choices including 2019 rose’ and white wines as well as older red wine vintages, and it all supports our thriving wine industry in the state of New Mexico.

“New Mexico has many high-quality wineries to choose from, so there’s something for everyone,” said New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte. “We are excited to partner with New Mexico Wine for this version of the $5 Challenge. We hope everyone will take advantage of this unique opportunity while enjoying responsibly.  Cheers!”

The New Mexico wine industry delivers more than $128 million in salaries to employees across the state, in rural and urban areas. New Mexico wineries, vineyards help contribute more than $370 million direct economic impact to the New Mexico economy.  Support for local wine makers is critical at this time to help continue the growth of the state’s wine production.
