Santa Barbara, CA – Wives Tara Gomez and Mireia Taribo have launched Camins 2 Dreams, their jointly owned and operated winery in Lompoc, near the Sta. Rita Hills appellation of Santa Barbara County. First conceived of in 2017, Camins 2 Dreams is located inside an intimate urban winery, which also includes a warm, elegant tasting room. Gomez and Taribo, both professional winemakers, have been married since 2014; Camins 2 Dreams is the culmination of their personal and professional dreams.
Gomez is a member of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, and gravitates towards terroir-driven wines, made using minimally interventionist methods. She oversees winemaking for the tribe’s Kita brand, and spends much of her time visiting vineyard sources. Taribo, who was born in Catalunya, Spain, and was winemaker at Castell d’ Encus in the Pyrenees Mountains, shares similar farming and winemaking philosophies with her wife and favors wines made with natural yeasts from meticulously farmed sources.
The provenance of the Camins 2 Dreams portfolio of wines is the Sta. Rita Hills appellation, which Gomez and Taribo believe is especially ideally suited to the varietal wines they choose to make. Their lineup includes a Grüner Veltliner, from Spear Vineyards, a coveted site along the Hwy. 246 corridor; a rosé of Syrah, that combines both Spear and Zotovich Vineyard fruit, and cool-climate Syrahs from both Spear and Zotovich Vineyards. The Zotovitch Vineyard has distinguished itself for over a decade as one of the appellation’s most storied and desired sites.
“Communal family meals and time spent outdoors with our friends and family are a big part of our identity, as a couple and as owners of a winery,” Gomez says. “I enjoy fishing and camping, and cooking meals outdoors that are intended to go well with our wines.” Taribo adds, “Breaking bread with friends and family is a source of joy for us, so we intentionally make wines with bright acidity, innate balance and the sound integration of oak, whenever it’s used, because we want our wines to enliven the palate, stir the appetite and accompany meals beautifully.”
Although their winery-debut festivities have been postponed due to the shelter-in-place mandate, Gomez and Taribo are looking forward to hosting a post-harvest winery grand opening this coming winter. In the meantime, wine lovers may find their wines at www.camins2dreams.com.
