Winery Tasting Rooms Closed in the Santa Cruz Mountains Ava

Public health orders allow essential winery operations to continue; The winery association directs patrons to contact individual wineries for details surrounding their operations and wine distribution

March 18, 2020 (APTOS, Calif.)––In response to Governor Newsom’s Monday announcement that all restaurants, bars, wineries, breweries and pubs should close to help curtail the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association (SCMWA) announces that all winery tasting rooms in the Santa Cruz Mountains American Viticultural Area (AVA) will be closed until further notice. Public health orders allow essential winery production and vineyard operations to continue so that vintners may continue to work on current fruit and wine production.

Jim Cargill, president of SCMWA, comments, “As vintners and growers, we know that patience, persistence and fortitude is what gets us through the worst of seasons. We know these qualities will see us through this epidemic as well.”

Strict “shelter-in-place” orders were announced on Tuesday for multiple counties in the Bay Area—including San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz, where the AVA’s wineries are located. Under these orders, individuals should contact individual wineries to learn about their pickup and delivery options.

Patrons can support Santa Cruz Mountains wineries by purchasing wine for delivery. Those interested in placing an order are encouraged to call individual wineries or visit their websites for more details on their operations and distribution during this time.
