Second Annual Conference To Feature Unprecedented Number of Female Winemakers and Women-Made Wines
AUSTIN, TX (March 11, 2020) – The second annual Wonder Women of Wine (WWOW) Conference is scheduled to go on as planned, with some 300 wine professionals and enthusiasts meeting in Austin, March 28-29, to address the state of gender equality in the wine industry.
“We are planning for another outstanding gathering of women and men who will share their experiences, insights and ideas on how women can advocate for themselves, seek out opportunities, and bring more diversity to the industry,” says Rania Zayyat, WWOW founder.
A full day of sessions tackle key issues including shifting feminism, standing up to sexual violence, entrepreneurship, advocacy and inclusion, health and wellness, and women in wine history.
The Conference will also host a rooftop tasting featuring wines from more than 55 female winemakers, representing nine countries and 62 wineries – an unprecedented portfolio of wines made by women or from women-owned wineries.
The WWOW tasting will culminate a community initiative throughout March with more than 35 local restaurants offering women-made wines and Twin Liquors featuring women-made wines in its 100+ stores across the state. Participating restaurants will dedicate space on their lists for underrepresented winemakers and highlight women-made and women-owned wines on their programs.
Open to all gender identities, the 2020 conference, held at Brazos Hall, offers one-day, full weekend, and all-access conference tickets ranging from $75 to $225. Special hotel rates are available at Carpenter Hall.
WWOW is taking steps to ensure the health and safety of attendees, including making hand sanitizers and sanitizing wipes available to conference guests, providing extra cleaning of high-touch surfaces in the building, and ensuring volunteer pourers properly wash hands and keep bottles from touching glasses. Attendees with flu-like symptoms are asked not to attend the conference.
