Mezzacorona Introduces New Red Blend, DiNotte

Newest portfolio addition focuses on the Trentino region’s indigenous varieties

New York (February 12, 2020) – Mezzacorona, a leading Italian wine producer, announces the launch of its red blend, DiNotte, to its award-winning portfolio. DiNotte will be available in U.S. markets in March.

Translating to “at night,” DiNotte expresses the aromatic richness of two native varieties that thrive on the foothills of the Dolomites mountain range in northern Italy: Teroldego and Marzemino. Teroldego (70%) displays bold flavors of plum, blackberry, and blueberry with a full-bodied texture and powerful structure. This variety has its own DOC, or protected area, in Trentino called Piana Rotaliana—which Mezzacorona helped to establish in 1971. Mezzacorona is the largest grower of Teroldego Rotaliano worldwide.

Rounding out the remaining 30% of the blend, Marzemino (15%) offers charming, juicy red fruit notes with a soft, velvety mouthfeel. Merlot (15%) balances the wine with complex aromas of vanilla and cocoa. Together, all three varieties create a fresh, balanced wine with wonderful structural tension and highly articulate fruit expression.

“Mezzacorona is the largest producer of Teroldego Rotaliano in the world, and this Trentino native variety is the perfect base for red blended wines, with its deep color, defined fruit aromas and soft tannins,” says Mezzacorona Gruppo’s Head Winemaker Maurizio Maurizi. “We wanted to create a special wine that reflects the unique alpine qualities of Trentino: the days are warm and sunny, often reaching 90-95°F during the growing season; however, there is a large diurnal temperature shift, with nighttime temperatures of 50°F. The night is truly what defines this wine, producing perfectly balanced grapes that are transformed into a charming wine that is easy to drink.”

Producing wine since 1904, Mezzacorona owes the quality of its portfolio to its unique positioning in the Trentino-Alto Adige region and over a century of expertise in winemaking. In Trentino-Alto Adige—located near the Swiss and Austrian borders—the Dolomites create a heat sink in the valley vineyards, which produces a radiant daytime heat that is mitigated by blanket of nighttime cooling air that runs along the Adige River. This produces high quality grapes that achieve optimum ripeness while retaining structural components that provide balance and freshness. DiNotte is produced using classic red vinification techniques and matured in second-use French oak barrels for six months.

“The DiNotte red blend was developed as a necessary addition to our Mezzacorona profile,” says Barbara Darra, Global Marketing Manager for Gruppo Mezzacorona. “We wanted to bring this red blend to life to offer our consumers a richer, bolder wine that is intended to be enjoyed particularly at night, a deviation from our usual bright and airy offerings.”

DiNotte is intended to help us embrace our deepest, darkest desires when the light of the day dims and the beauty of the night takes over. DiNotte can be enjoyed as an aperitif for those who prefer fuller-bodied reds and paired with a wide range of foods, from casual foods such as burgers and pizza to a beautifully seared steak or classic Bolognese.

DiNotte joins Mezzacorona’s portfolio of 750mL bottled wines, which includes single varietal whites and reds, Mezzacorona Rosé and Mezza di Mezzacorona Brut and Rosé sparkling wines. All Mezzacorona’s wines are sustainably farmed, hand-harvested, and estate-bottled. DiNotte is imported by Prestige Wine Imports and will be available nationwide with a suggested retail price of $10.99. For more information, please visit www.prestigewineimports.com.
